Mostly the cell calls are from towers in our city. Some of the towers are

in other cities. My last 911 bounce was from a lady in Virginia Beach, a

good 20+ miles from where our Headquarters is located. I know that it

wasn't our city's tower, because the Chesapeake towers have a verifiable

address that shows up in the ALI strip.

When you get a call from out of your jurisdiction does the ALI screen

show a tower that is in your city? I ask this because we receive many

calls from one particular cell tower that is located 15 miles away.

Whenever we get a tower from outside our jurisdiction, it shows the actual

location of the tower and the county/jurisdiction the tower is located in to

help with determining which psap it needs to go to.

It's amazing how far they can bounce though. we get misrouted cell calls

all the time. Where I dispatch, we cover a large population but its very

rural as well. i get cell misrouts that are up to 150+ miles away. last

summer was aweful. we were getting cell calls from walla walla washington

which is almost 400 miles from where we are. somehow they were getting

bounced to us and the bad thing about it, they were mostly reporting actual

emergencies and the addresses they were giving were working in our CAD

system for our county. we caught on pretty quick and it took the cell

company about 2 weeks to get it all figured out.
