Guest guest
What are your numbers? I was surfing the web last night and found that the range numbers had been changes in 2003 & not all dr's & labs know it. http://thyroid.about.com/cs/newsinfo/l/bltest_values.htm Since I dont belive that the word " Normal " should be allowed to be used. Just becuase the dr says its within " normal " range doesnt mean its normal for you. If it was you would be feeling better and woudn't have had to go see the dr to begin with. Guest guest
Hello , You're certainly not alone here. I was on 50 mcgs of Synthroid too and felt terrible. I was still cold, tired, and achy. My doctor wanted to tell me I was depressed because my TSH was " normal " at 2.97, but I insisted something was wrong so he grudgingly re-tested and it had gone up to 5.47. I'm now on 75 mcg Synthroid for the last 3 weeks and am just beginning to feel a little better now. I'm expecting the effect to wear off though, like it did last time. Thankfully i found an endo to go to and have an appt in a few weeks. It's terrible that we have to suffer through these crappy symptoms while we try to get better. Why does thyroid hormone work so slowly???? Carol > > My tests are well within the normal range. I have been on 50mcgs of > Synthorid for 6+ months. Why does thyroid hormone work so slowly????<< It doesn't! You are on the wrong thyroid hormones. I was "not adjusted right" on Synthroid for 25 years and felt like crap. It finally took me almost dying from lack of T3 for me to realize my doctors had their own interests in mind, not my health. I am on Armour Thyroid now for the last 6 years and am finally feeling WELL. *Artistic Grooming * Hurricane, WVFat cat? Diabetes? Guest guest
Hashimoto's is so treacherous in that the TSH can be low one day, then high the next. That's because one day the antibodies are plummeting the thyroid, the next day, the thyroid does a higher output on it's own, but is so sick that it starts to titer out. Then, because it's not dead yet (as it may NEVER be), here it goes again maybe the next day, next month, or even the next yr, doing more output, whereas, the month before it may have been in extremely slow motion. If a Hashi's person (who DOESN'T have a dead gland yet) could have their TSH drawn every single day for a couple of yrs, I could bet that the swings are extremely wide, even from day to day, even the thyroid hormone levels, from day to day. THIS is why Hashi's is so hard to treat, why the person feels horrible most of the time, and why the outside thyroid hormone adjustments have to be monitored and changed so frequently. It's sort of a " now ya see it now ya don't " kind of thing, and makes it not simply to treat at all! I have extreme belief in the natural thyroid products, particularly Armour, but even that will not seem to stop these wild swings, when these antibodies are still doing their dirty work, for whatEVER reason they appear. I believe that this is why I feel wonderful some days, and others, not so wonderful. I won't accept feeling horrible all the time any more, but I also realize that I have a lifelong disease. This is another reason that I've often said that I would really like for my thyroid to be removed, so that at least I would know where I stand, and there would be nothing for these sorry antibodies TO attack. At least I'd know that I would more than likely be taking XYZ amt of thyroid hormone for full replacement of EVERYthing that my thyroid made, mainly because at least I wouldn't be on the roller coast ride of " how much hormone is my thyroid deciding to make on it's own today, as compared to tomorrow or the next " . If someone thinks this is too radical a move, then they must not have had Hashimoto's for the last possibly 20 yrs or more, being diagnosed with personality disorder and everything else under the sun, with they thyroid testing being SO elusive!
