Guest guest
Here is an excerpt of an email Kay sent that I kept for future reference. These links may help and hopefully Kay won't mind me quoting her?? I found the second document mentioned (from VA Dept of Ed) to be very helpful. - Pam ------------------------ Extended School Year http://www.ppmd.org/publications/extended_school_year.html Discusses some past court cases Extended School Year Services Technical Assistance Resource Document http://www.pen.k12.va.us/VDOE/Instruction/Sped/ESYdoc.pdf While this is from the Virginia Department of Education, I find it a wonderful document for discussing ESY Extended School Year http://www.kidsource.com/kidsource/content3/extended.school.k12.2.html This is another discussion that goes into detail as to qualifying for ESY (if my mail program splits this, or any other link, you'll have to cut and paste the 2 parts together) Letter of Inquiry - OSEP http://baby.indstate.edu/iseas/esy1.html A discussion of ESY services Did Your School Follow The New Requirements In Considering Extended School Year Services For Your Child This Summer? She qualifies under multiple disabilities. They have offered ESY for PT, but have not made an offering for classroom/playgroup/ASL interaction. This is more important to me for ESY, as we have a private PT that we see as well as the school. > > My question is, under what grounds do they have to offer ESY, or should I say, under what grounds should I request it. Guest guest
Hi Randie, My daughter is getting speech therapy and attending a " Camp " through the community school program. The Speech Therapy is offered at the school which is the summer school site, during summer school hours 7:30 - 1:00. The " Camp " is during the more humane hours of 9-3, so we were able to arrange for speech therapy to be at 8 - 8:45, and then I drive her to the " Camp " at a different school site. It has been working. Check out the hours of the two. It may work out without a fight. Terri , Mother of Kathy, 6 HoH, future paleontologist and pokemon trainer > It would be for five weeks >during the summer, I'm not sure where, and she'd have to miss part of camp >going to it. I once read on Listen-Up about getting services outside of >school hours so the educational day is not interrupted. I don't believe that >would go for camp! > >Randie Chubin
