Guest guest
Doreen... just a quick comment.. even though you may indeed need to increase your dose.. you can't be doubling it all at once..... you should increase by more than half a grain at your current dose... and once you hit three you should reduce it to 1/4 grain per increase.... and don't do increases more often than 4 to 6 weeks.... You have to keep in mind that it takes 4 to 6 weeks for the T4 in the Armour to build up in your tissues and show it's full effect.. that's why you have to give it time to show what it's doing for you.... you can be overdosing long before your body even reacts to it..... (learned that the hard way myself)..... Topper () On Wed, 22 Dec 2004 17:30:09 -0500 isabellabird@... writes: Hi Kathy--Did you watch the news yesterday? Now the FDA is warning us about Alevecausing heart attacks--same chemically as naprosyn, only over thecounter.I have been taking the generic version of naproxen for YEARS! 1000 mgtwice a day. It's the only thing keeping me walking with my arthriticknees. My dr. used to prescribe Arthrotec which was good, but bad formy liver, so no more of that. So what now???My dr. has me on 2 grains of armour a day now, and I know it's notenough--I was on 1 and a half and felt REALLY bad and my tsh came backat 14+!!! I wanted my armour doubled and she(the nurse practitioner)wouldn't increase it that much. I go for labs again at the end of nextweek. I am still holding off on self medicating. I have the name andphone # of an OD who recently started practicing and I think I am goingto call her next week and get an appointment. I am tired of conservativetreatment where my thyroid is concerned and feel I have lost over 12years of living feeling like crap.Doreen

She's been taking Celebrex for a couple of years now with no problems. I don't know what's next. I'm not sure the Aleve is agreeing with me, though I've only been taking it a couple of days. I'm going to keep taking it for another week to give my body time to adjust to the difference and see if my arthritis is still manageable. Just remember that you need to take increases in thyroid meds slowly. Jumping from 1 and a half to 3 grains is a big jump and you may not be able to adjust to so much at once. Just wait for the new lab work and remember it takes 4 to 6 weeks to notice much difference with a dosage change. ===== Kathy >^,,^< KitzCat146@... http://www.chaytongroup.com/modernbill/order/index.php?aid=ka081104 http://www.heartwarmers4u.com/members/?kitzcat kitzcat2001 on Yahoo Messenger kitzcat on MSN Messenger In a cat's eyes, all things belong to cats. - English Proverb __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Doreen That's not all. They're not even bringing up ibuprophen yet, but it is BOTH a 1 AND 2 inhibitor, so I don't even understand why it hasn't even been mentioned at this time. It's the granddaddy of them all! I take it now and then for swelling in my thyroid and for the swollen lymph nodes that run up under the jaw. Sheesh!! Is there anything safe for us left?! I think you're right in seeking another doctor. If I could, I would. I am self treating, with no insurance. Re: Naprosyn > > Hi Kathy-- > Did you watch the news yesterday? Guest guest
Yes, naprosyn is the same thing as naproxen, but not the same thing as Pamelor. The generic or chemical name for Pamelor is Nortriptylene, which is an antidepressant that increases certain brain chemicals gradually. It is one of the old TCAs (tricyclic antidepressants).
