Guest guest
LMAO - yep you missed it. LOL. Let me see if I can find it.... But you asked for it..... About 60 years ago, after they discovered that cooking hamburger too long causes carsinogics, they started looking into it to find what exactly was in the beef that was a cancer causing agent. The team of scientists who were working on it noticed that there was something else in the beef itself that was fighting against this cancer causing agent. So, they stopped looking for the carsonogen (canser causing agent) and instead focused on the 'thing' that was naturaly in the beef that seemed to be fighting cancer. Well - they called this 'thing' CLA (conjugated linoleic acid). So, thinking they had discovered a cancer cure - they started researching the CLA. What they discovered was that is is a great antioxident and is good to help with many other things as well (you should be able to find lots of info on this). Once human studies began they discovered that this essential fatty acid is one of the things that the body uses to regulate it's fat (among other things...they still have not discovered all of it's benefits...it seems to have changed my life - noticalbey to both me and to those around me). I honestly believe that if we give our bodies everything it needs nutrition/supliment wise...that we wouldn't be too fat (unless there is a medical condition of course). Our body will, of course, store SOME fat - as a means of protecting iself against food shortages and cold weather (we can combat this by whearing layers in the winter and eating at regular intravals and eating enough - WITHOUT FAIL.) Our bodies are not ment to carry an extra 100 pounds - and if it had been given all it needs to regulate this fat storage and use - chances are (I beleive), we would have gained a bit of weight - but not as much as most of us have. Why CLA helps with fat storge and loosing fat... Now I'm still a baby, so to speak, when it comes to chemistry and biology and anatomy...but I have enough years of study and school in to get the jist :-) So although my ideas may be a bit off here and there, I'm pretty confident that I'm pretty much on the mark. (well - looseing almost 60 pounds without real diet or any exersice makes me feel pretty confident anyway...) Anyhow - CLA is something that people 50 and 60 years ago had plenty of in their diets. (and it wasn't often you saw a very fat person before the 1940's-50's). Why don't we get enough CLA? Because the cows are not grown naturaly and allowed to grase. Yester-year it was easy to get the needed 3700mg of CLA in a few servings of beef and/or hard milk products. Now - with 'technology' and special feed ext, a HUGE serving of beef only contains 0.03 mg of cla and milk has 0.0! No way we can get it naturaly now :-( Calcium and CLA both regulate (I don't know how yet) the amount of fat we store and what we do with that fat. CLA will help to block your body from storing fat once it has enough fat to concider itself " safe " . Also, if there is too much fat on the body, taking CLA gets in there - to the fat - and breaks it down, making it semipermiable and possible to pass into the blood stream for use as energy. Having this stored energy actualy used as energy (if the body is working properly), basicaly cuts down your appitite because your body is feeding off the energy reserves (fat). Also - because there is a huge amount of energy sorce available at all times, the muscle is fed and increases it's tone (I have noticed this BIG time), and you just feel healthier, or more energenic. (I had terrible problems - cronic fatigue and achyness, insomnia, I would wake up after any amount of sleep so tired - and never have energy at all - none. I would be happy to sit and do nothing all day and have no problem staying in bed and sleeping all day) - now, I can't sit all day without being occupied without getting figety because I actualy feel good and have energy. Before, I ate food for energy but it wasn't being converted to energy - only fat. I use tonalin - and I take 6000mg to 8000 mg per day. I started at 4000mg, then increase to 5000mg, then 6000mg, the 8000mg. It doesn't stay in the body long so you have totake it throu out the day. If your taking 4 1000 mg tabs (which I would suggest) - take each one a difffernt times through the day. Once I had saturated my body and had felt and seen that it was 'kicking in', I lowered it back down to 6000mg. (I only suggest 4000mg per day to everyone else, unless you REALY know your body well and if you are, like me, very tolorant to all forms of rx ect. My liver seems to chew up and spit out anything I put in - which may have something to do with my ex-large pancris. No clue. An example - a round of antibiotics will not work unless the strength is almost doubled. Even the strongest rx pain killers won't get rid of a simple headach. So, as you see - I had reason to go higher in dose. I'm too tired to proof read - hope like heck this is clear and understandable for you. guitarsandpics@... If you don't mind - I'll just copy/paist a few things here for you to read: In more than 200 studies worldwide, the ingredients in Tonalin® CLA appear to provide many other health benefits. The latest research reveals the most dramatic impact may be on the reduced risk and incidence of breast cancer. Other beneficial effects may include fighting prostate cancer and atherosclerosis (heart disease), improving immune function related to asthma and allergies, and improving blood sugar control to help treat diabetes. Tonalin® CLA is completely natural; it contains no artificial ingredients. While CLA naturally occurs most abundantly in beef and dairy fats, Natural Inc. creates Tonalin® CLA using a proprietary process that converts the linoleic acid in natural safflower oil into conjugated linoleic acid, which is the same molecule as naturally occurring CLA. Studies show that CLA (the active ingredient in Tonalin® CLA) works three ways to help you achieve your diet goals. CLA interferes with a substance in your body called lipoprotein lipase that helps store fat in your body. CLA helps your body use its existing fat for energy. CLA increases lean muscle tissue, which naturally slims your body (and makes you feel strong and healthy). And the more muscle you have, the more calories your body uses in order to function, thereby speeding up the fat burning process. As a result, you get smaller in all the right places. You drop clothes sizes. You look great. You feel great. And no yo-yo dieting effect. Dietary CLA has been shown to effect body composition by creating a reduction in body fat and an enhancement of lean tissue or muscle. According to Pariza at the University of Wisconsin, this area of CLA research is the most supported. Recently, the research has focused on clinical studies with much success; showing statistically significant reduction in body fat as measured by BMI (Body Mass Index). A significant decrease measured in waistline measured in inches, a positive result for weight loss in mildly overweight subjects and an increase in strength. Human clinical studies to substantiate improved body composition have been conducted worldwide. Positive results of CLA supplementation have been seen at research centers worldwide. Kent State University, University of Memphis, University of Wisconsin, USDA Western Human Research Center, Medstat Research Ltd. in Norway, Uppsala University in Sweden, University of Kumanoto in Japan and University of Tours in France. CLA appears to exert direct effects on adipocytes, which are the principle sites of fat storage and skeletal muscle cells and are the primary sites of fat combustion. It has been proposed that the physiologic mechanism of body fat reduction by CLA involves inhibition of fat storage in adipocytes coupled with elevated b- oxidation in skeletal muscle. An overall increase in skeletal muscle tissue may be mediated at least in part via the inhibition of immune- induced catabolism. CLA is a metabolically active compound that has been demonstrated to dramatically reduce body fat and increase lean body tissue. The mechanisms of action are not completely understood, but because CLA has been shown to affect a wide variety of enzymes and hormones in the body, multiple mechanisms may come into play. Numerous human studies are in progress, which will make a stronger case for efficacy and dose response. Expectations are high that research will additionally show no regain of body fat lost, suggesting that Tonalin™ CLA should be included with every diet regimen. Not only does Tonalin® have no harmful side effects, but it's actually good for your body. As a matter of fact, scientists worldwide are just begining to understand CLA's wide range of potential health benefits. Here are quick summaries of CLA's current four principal health benefit areas. In the early 1980s, a noted doctor, Pariza, working at the University of Wisconsin and his colleagues discovered that CLA interfered with the growth of cancer tumors. Since then, a number of other studies have further shown CLA's cancer- fighting potential. Some of these studies have shown that CLA can suppress cancer development in animals, and in human cancer cell lines in vitro. Dietary CLA also seems to protective against breast cancer in humans, as demonstrated in a large French study by Lavillonniere et. al. at the University Francois-Rabelais. When breast adipose tissue was collected at the time of surgery, higher levels of CLA in the control group suggested CLA's protective effect against breast cancer. A different study in Finland confirmed the reverse correlation between milkfat intake, which contains CLA and breast cancer. Over the next few years, additional studies are planned to help further understand the role CLA may play in the fight against cancer. Over time, cholesterol and other substances can form plaque in your arteries, narrowing them, reducing your heart's blood supply. This is artherosclerosis, and it can kill you. In a collaborative study where a diet high in cholesterol was fed along with CLA to animals, the data suggested that CLA could help prevent artherosclerosis. By week 12, the LDL and total cholesterol and triglyceride counts were markedly lower in the blood of the animals fed CLA. Other studies have indicated that CLA reduces plasma lipoproteins and early aortic atherosclerosis in the animal model. According to Dr. Kritchevsky at the Wistar Institute, another significant finding is the apparent ability of CLA to reduce the severity of preinduced atherosclerosis lesions in the animal model. Overall, CLA has considerable potential for the prevention and treatment of artherosclerosis, and studies continue to reveal it's potential health benefits. One of the most important health benefits of CLA could possibly be its ability to affect and treat some types of diabetes. According to Dr. Martha Belury at Purdue University and Dr. Vandel Heuvel at Penn State University, CLA normalizes impaired glucose tolerance in non insulin-dependent diabetes. In earlier experiments by Houseknecht et. al., it was observed that CLA and troglitazone reversed the symptoms of diabetes in a specific diabetic animal model. Effects included decreased triglycerides, insulin and leptin, and improved glucose utilization. Belury and Vanden Heuvel conclude that CLA may represent an important agent for the treatment of Type II diabetes. Because CLA isomers share many of the attributes of the clinical thiazolidinedione drug, troglitazone, without exhibiting as many side effects, CLA may represent a new insulin-sensitizing agent for treatment of Type II diabetes. Additional clinical studies are scheduled at many universities worldwide in order to further explore the possibilities of using CLA for diabetes treatment. In 1991, evidence obtained through the collaborative efforts of Dr. Mark Cook and Dr. Pariza at the University of Wisconsin revealed the immune boosting potential of CLA. Feeding CLA to chicks provided partial protection against the catabolic effects of exposure to endotoxin. This research expanded to include rodents and supported the fact that CLA-fed animals exhibit enhanced immune functions. CLA is the only known nutrient that enhances the immune system and protects against the harmful " cellular backlash " that occurs when the immune system is stimulated. As published in sperate issues of Cancer Research, CLA has been shown to be an effective antioxidant in vitro according to Dr. Yeong Ha and in vivo according to Dr. Clement Ip. Because numerous studies indicate that oxidative reactions are associated with the development of cancer and atherosclerosis, CLA's ability to reduce the harmful effects of these oxidative reactions could be its most important health benefit In addition, research suggests that CLA may ease the inflammation that occurs when the immune system is challenged. Scientists have linked the steady rise in obesity in the U.S. over the past 30 years to the reduction of CLA in our diets. There are two reasons: Americans have substantially reduced their consumption of beef and dairy products. Additionally, changes in beef and dairy cattle feed (from pasture grasses to forage) have reduced their production of CLA by 65%. Ang > > It is made from sunfower seed I believe. Guest guest
Oh okay, sunflower seeds should be fine but I WILL check before I buy some. As I in Australia, I'm going to ask at the local health food store to see if they have it. Thanks again for the info Ang. > > Thank-you sooo much for the post about CLA Ang! Guest guest
Your very welcome :-) I hope it works as well for you as it does for me. I'm glad your going to check it out. I've heard a few people say it gave them looser bowls when they first started taking it. But in all honesty - it never did for me, but what does happen for me is that every time I start loosing wieght at a quick rate (say a 1/4 pound a day) I am looser. It's silly, but it makes me wonder if the fat I'm loosing actually 'comes out'. LOL Ang > > > Thank-you sooo much for the post about CLA Ang! Guest guest
Hmmmmm....sounds like it could be Ang.
