Guest guest
Bonnie- Crummy! I'm sure Patty is really bummed out. I hope you find the support you need to get this done for her. Maybe the folks planning the picnic have a plan for rain. Even if just one other person shows up -- it could be the one who she was gonna connect with. I know the chances are lower with less attendance, but all you need is one great person. I'll keep my fingers crossed. Your idea of getting in touch with legislators or government officials is probably good. I remember when we were having problems with getting nursing care. Someone who knew someone got a " legislative referral " and suddenly things happened. Michele W Aubrie's mom
Guest guest
Bonnie, You, Patty and your family are in my prayers. It seems so wrong. I wish I could help. Lynn Sadness again For the fourth time Patty has been turned down by " The Ride " which is a program here in MA that will pick her up and bring her to where she needs to go. She could use that instead of public transportation, which at this time is an impossibility for her. This has been going on since March. First we filled one out, then her case manager from the commision for the blind did, then the commissioner for the blind did, finally her pediatrician from CT did. Each time she was turned down because they needed different professionals or needed more information. It astounds me they wouldn't take the commissioner for the deaf/blind signature. Patty has been sitting here home all this time, alone. I quit my job to take her places but now have a new one. She can't go anywhere unless or I take her there. She has had NO social opportunities at all because my goodness, how the heck is she supposed to get there? She is one of those individuals you hear about that are secluded from society. I am more than dispondent over this. No, I am now just down right angry. Were do you get an advocate for the deaf/blind here in the MA area? I think I am going to just get in touch with some sort of government official though I have to look it up here. I did make some connections on my last job but most of them were federal. Can any of you help? I guess the torment of having to advocate for something we shouldnt have to is never over. And to make things worse, this picnic she was supposed to go to today to meet more individuals who are deaf is still on though it is raining. I doubt she will meet many due to the rain. Bad luck all around. Bonnie
Guest guest
Bring up the ADA to them. She is legally blind so she qualifies period. Guest guest
Bonnie, WHAT IS GOING ON WITH THIS??? I don't understand why Patty is being denied the RIDE. I am saving the message and when I get back to the office on Monday will see if I can find anything out from the people I know . I am sooo sorry about this--it just makes no sense whatsoever!!!
