Guest guest
Hey a, Yes I've thought about it, mostly in case I needed to be incubated or something, but never did it. If you put " Gastric Bypass " and your surgeons name, you SHOULD be ok I think, but again, ask your Dr. for confirmation on it. I pass out all the time, so far, no problems even though I don't wear a bracelet! LOL! Dawn Need for Medical Bracelet? Hi all-- For those of you who have has WLS...do any of you wear a medical bracelet that indicates you have had WLS? I am seriously contemplating (OK, so my mind is already made up!) getting one because all sorts of " What If's " haunt me...What if I were to pass out, What if I'm in shock and can't communicate to the doctors who are treating me, etc. Bottom line: I don't want my health to be endangered in an emergency medical care situation because of my WLS. If I were to get a bracelet, it would have the exact name of my surgery, the surgeon's name, the surgeon's phone number, and the number of one of my relatives. HAS ANYONE GOTTEN A BRACELET OR CONSIDERED IT? Are there any health professionals out there who can lend some insight as to what should go on the bracelet? Guest guest
Ive considered it .. honestly haven't done anything about it yet .. probably should. I mentioned it to Dr. Thayer a few times he isn't against it but I have never heard him push it .. I've heard on the main list a few have gotten it .. I think instead of saying gastric bypass or perhaps with it they added in no long intubation tubes or somethign like that (can't quite remember) Sorry I can't be of more help. Guest guest
a, I guess I dont understand why anyone needs to know that you have had the wls.......its not like they are going to feed you with out you knowing or anything. Its not likely that any IVs or medication they would give you would affect your WLS situation. Do you think that your passing out will have anything to do with the WLS? rheaumepaula@... wrote: > Hi all-- > > For those of you who have has WLS...do any of you wear a medical > bracelet that indicates you have had WLS? > > I am seriously contemplating (OK, so my mind is already made up!) > getting one because all sorts of " What If's " haunt me...What if I > were > to pass out, What if I'm in shock and can't communicate to the > doctors > who are treating me, etc. > > Bottom line: I don't want my health to be endangered in an emergency > medical care situation because of my WLS. > > If I were to get a bracelet, it would have the exact name of my > surgery, the surgeon's name, the surgeon's phone number, and the > number of one of my relatives. > > HAS ANYONE GOTTEN A BRACELET OR CONSIDERED IT? > > Are there any health professionals out there who can lend some > insight > as to what should go on the bracelet? > > Curious Minds Want to Know! > --a > > >
Guest guest
, God forbid something should happen that we're unable to speak, and they need to put a tube down our throats, the tubes are made too large for our new system, and could cause damage. They can sometimes use a pediatric version, as it's much smaller, however some are too short for our adult sized intestines. This is how it was explained to me from my Dr. (not Dr. Randall, another surgeon). Just trying to answer some questions, hopefully, none of us will ever experience such an ordeal to have to have the Dr's read a bracelet. Guest guest
Hi a, I think the medical bracelet idea is great! Let us know anything you find out. Diane R.
Guest guest
a: A bracelet is probably a good idea, as long as it has the information in such a way that the medical profession will have a clue what is means. It's surprising the medical professionals that are not familiar with WLS. But, you are right. Do you remember when Pat (I think that's her name) talked about cosmetic surgery? She told about being down south somewhere and suffering a blockage. She did not lose consciousness but the medical people in whatever hokey town she was in did not have a clue about WLS and she went through a lot before they discovered, that yes indeedy, she did have a blockage. Who know what they would have done if she was not alert and able to communicate. I don't know much about them (except my husband has one for diabetes), so let me know what you find out. See you in November. Lois
Guest guest
Hey Dawn: I think you may mean intubated (?) You would never be incubated unless you are in an egg about to hatch. But, who knows? Lois
