Guest guest
My son can't tolerate zinc or B6 either. However, his copper level is normal. If I give him anything over about 8 mg zinc, he gets very hyper and stimmy. He's very, very low in zinc, so I keep trying different brands and types and formulations of zinc, and the best I can ever do without serious side effects is that 8mg. As far as B6, I have had to stop giving my son multivitams because they all make him hyperactive. I had a Great Smokies Metabolic Analysis done which showed, among other things, that the only two B vitamins he's deficient in are B12 and folic acid, so now those are the only two Bs I supplement. I just hope he gets enough of the rest from his diet. Debbie
Guest guest
Debbie, Thanks for you reply.. ....As far as B6, I have had to stop giving my son multivitams because they all make him hyperactive.... Ditto for us! I always suspected B6, but I have seen him hyper just on C... Cheers, Elvira
Guest guest
> However, I'd like to ask if any of you had experience with zinc against high > copper and what was that for you. My son needed to start with a lower dose of zinc, and only in the morning, for several weeks. Otherwise he was hyper. > Also, if any of you know what bad effects can come when metals are moving > around (eg copper), I would appreciate a posting. My chelation page includes some info on this. http://www.autismchannel.net/dana/chelate.htm > > Also, would this (4mg) doze of B6 explain stimming/hyperness? The adult RDA for B6 is 2 mg per day. So 4 mg is high, altho I would not call it " mega dose " . But some kids do not tolerate high levels of B vitamins, so yes it may have been the cause of stimming/hyper for your child. My son gets hyper on both of these two. I have thought of these as two separate issues; don't know if I'm right. He's very sensitive to phenols, and it's typical for that type of kid to have problems with B-6. As far as zinc, this is still a big question in my mind but I think it's because of the copper issue, and he seems to be getting better with zinc over time. Guest guest
Jon gets hyper on both B6 and zinc. Either separate or combined Could this still be a thyroid problem? It says here " Low levels of B6 have been found to reduce zinc absorption " Barbara > Some kids go wild/manic/hyper when adding more than just a small > amount of zinc. > >> > this is Jon, anyone know why??? Possible thyroid problems (as in hyper). Zinc increases thyroid action, so more zinc means the thyroid might work faster. If he already is hyperthyroid.... problems. Also, something else that influences zinc... B6. I am not sure what's the connection, but I was reading somewhere that if you want to supplement zinc you have to give B6 also because somehow zinc depletes it (??)... I am not sure if this is what I read, but I remember it was a connection between zinc and B6. Valentina
Guest guest
p5p is stronger than b6, how much r u giving him. i gave up on p5p and went back to 3 mg of b6 in the afternoon with natures way chelated magnesium. i think wether you take zinc in the night or morning depends on the form, like zinc picolinate seems ok in the evening but zinc methionine is stimulating and may be better in the morning. p5p does some good but in the end seemed to unstable in effect,. as for freezing you can only try. i can't quite remeber but b vits seem to freeze ok and in theory the enzymes shouldn't work on them......................... > I think I read these can't be taken together. If that is correct, I am having trouble working out when to give them all. He did not do well having the zinc at night. He needed it in the morning. If I gave the B6 after school (3.15pm) would it still keep him awake at night? Has anybody tried a full dose of P5P at this time of day? Any other clever ideas? > > What about if I put the P5P in with the frozen enzymes to have at school? Would it degrade and not work, does anyone know? > TIA > Prue > >
