Guest guest
This is what happens to me if my thyroid dose is too high. I will get constapated and shakey and it's wierd going up stairs and stuff. I have read that constapation is one symptom of high thyroid and that you can become weak. Guest guest
Hi Dee, In order to help you would you mind actually posting your Free T4 and Free T3 levels along with the lab ranges??? As for constipation, the lower/less Synthroid (say in the .200 range) I was in my treatments the more constipated I was, to the point that I developed hemorrhoids just before I went onto naturals. The higher my doseage the easier it was for a daily movement.... Gossimer > Hi! Can anyone tell me if muscle weakness can be caused by too much cytomel? > My last labs showed ft4 mid-range and ft3 at the very top of the range. I > don't feel hyper and my body temp is always between 95-97 degrees. I am on 175 mcg > levoxyl and 75 mcg of cytomel. I am considering cutting back to 62.5 cytomel. > Also has anyone noticed a difference in constipation when lowering cytomel? > Thank you, > Dee
Guest guest
Here were my last labs: 175 mcg of Levoxyl and 75 mcg of Cytomel: Free T4 1.5 (0.8-1.8) Free T3 426 (230-420) Today I reduced the Cytomel to 68.75. Any suggestions? Thanks, Dee
Guest guest
Oops...made a mistake....reduced the cytomel to 62.5 mcg today.
Guest guest
Topper, I reduced the Cytomel to 62.75 because of the muscle weakness and constipation. Once before the doc had me add an additional 12.5 to the 75 and the constipation was worse. My doc is an armour/cytomel man. Thinks everyone should either be on Armour or cytomel only. I've tried both of those and felt bad no matter what the dose. Feel much better with Levoxyl/cytomel even if he isn't too crazy about it. My doc also doesn't like blood tests at all....would rather go by symptoms which is great but if you've been hypo for over 3 years and trying different things and not getting better then I think it's time to do some blood tests. Thanks, Dee
Guest guest
Constipation is a cardinal symptom of HYPOthyroidism. Loose bowels, or even diahrrea are often a symptom of HYPERthyroidism, from the speedy metabolism. Re: Muscle weakness/constipation > > > This is what happens to me if my thyroid dose is too high. Guest guest
Dee, How are you feeling? I'd hold at the new dose for a couple of months and then test again... your numbers really don't look too bad... depending on how you feel..... Guest guest
Hmmm This doesn't fit. Constipation is a common symptom of hypo. Low thyroid hormone levels mean lower metabolic rates resulting in slower digestion, incomplete digestion, slow moving bowels... constipation. Cytomel is synthetic T3. T3 is the active thyroid hormone. Why reduce the amount of available active hormone when dealing with a symptom that is often associated with low thyroid hormone levels? Muscle weakness. That can be many things. Being out of shape, insufficient oxygenation, incomplete removal of waste elements from the muscle tissue, dehydration, fatigue from over use. Reducing the cytomel suggests that he feels that you were over dosed, exhibiting signs of hyperthyroid (excess thyroid hormone levels)... what other symptoms are you showing to suggest hyper? Heart rate consistently over 90 at rest Intolerance to heat Excessive perspiration Heart palps Frequent trips to move bowels and empty bladder Increased appetite Sudden unexplained change in weight, usually weight loss Twitching of muscles, most easily noticed are fingers, eye lids and large muscles of the thighs - but this can show in ALL muscles of the body Racing mind, can't concentrate ..... any of those sounding familiar? Is he having you take the Cytomel all at once? Or in several doses during the day? Has he ever run labs? Can you afford to have your own labs run through Health Check ( www.healthcheckusa.com ) What is the original diagnosis? Have you had RAI or surgery (I know.. you've probably told us, but review is needed for us foggy brain types! hehehehe) Topper () On Thu, 30 Dec 2004 15:05:55 EST dm12420@... writes: Topper, I reduced the Cytomel to 62.75 because of the muscle weakness and constipation. Guest guest
So, with Hashimoto's then I can have alternating constipation and loose bowels?.......Hmmmm Thanks, Re: Muscle weakness/constipation > > > > > > > > This is what happens to me if my thyroid dose is too high. Guest guest
Hi, ?How long have you been on the 175 mcg levoxyl and 75 mcg of Cytomel? How do you feel? Are you having any problems? Why do you feel that you need to reduce your Cytomel? Guest guest
It's possible, depending on how exaggerated the swings are in the level of the antibodies and fluctuation of thyroid hormone levels... Guest guest
I don't knwo about others, however for me the answer is... yep.... always thought that it was IBS until I started reading more about Hashi's and then I started watching for patterns... Guest guest
OH!!! So I'm not crazy... I don't have Hashi's but I have been hyper and hypo and there is a difference in bowel health... every time I see that darn commercial with all the women with the writing on their tummies talking about the drug that 'will make it all better' I'm thinking why do that many woman have that much irregularity? So there goes my thyroid advocate brain saying that it's got to be undiagnosed low thyroid.... OR feminine hygiene products...... Between getting my thyroid and adrenal issues in better form and no longer using commercial female stuff.... I no longer have monthly diarrhea, or PMS, cramps or anything else... Guest guest
The better question would be were you feeling really good before you dropped your thyroid back. Some people would be hyper on these #s, other people would feel great, yet other people, well, this would not be enough for them, due to thyroid hormone cellular resistance. In resistance, the hormone is available, but the thyroid receptors can't absorb it, so that person has to take a much larger amt, even though their blood tests say it's over range. How were you feeling at that time? Re: Muscle weakness/constipation Here were my last labs: 175 mcg of Levoxyl and 75 mcg of Cytomel:Free T4 1.5 (0.8-1.8) Free T3 426 (230-420)Today I reduced the Cytomel to 68.75. Any suggestions? Guest guest
IF the gland is still able to overproduce the thyroid hormone, while also taking the thyroid hormone by mouth. Or even if not taking the thyroid hormone. The only way to determine that is by the way a person feels, as in having other symptoms of hyperthyroid. Loose bowels-only could represent a lot of things, including a viral infection in the intestines. I would not reduce my dose based only on that. For instance, I know that around over a week ago, I picked up a little intestinal virus from work, and the main way it affected me was by having looser bowels, but it is very obvious to me that I'm not hyper, I'm still hypo.
