Guest guest
Michele, You keep fighting for what Aubrie needs. I just wish it wasn't such a " fight " . What about arranging Scrabble tiles to spell words. It would be a little hard for sentences. Just a thought. Hang in there. It will all be worth it. I didn't have to " fight " to hard for but spent hours and hours working on speech at home and at school. It payed off. is starting a new adventure as a server in a small family owned Italian restaurant not far from her apartment. He current job is to far to dive in the snow this winter. She told them up front that hearing was a concern. They told her they wouldn't give her more than she could handle and would teach her what she needs to know. She's excited about the challenge. I hope she is successful at her new challenge. CHARGE kids truly never give up and never give in. Lynn tech update We had Aubrie's IEP this morning to discuss PT after her hip surgery. I also brought up the technology and keyboarding issues -- again. Remember when I went through asking questions about this last spring? At the IEP meeting then, we did get daily computer time in the IEP, but there was no direction or curriculum. The aid just did basic word processing of spelling words and sentences. This time, we're going to make real progress. I'm determined that my focus will stay on Aubrie's education until I get it where it needs to be. I have neglected my business so long now that it can just stay neglected until I'm ready to dive back in. Anyway-- I am hoping that we will order a child-sized keyboard and keyboard coach software (see www.thelearningstudio.com). I found the software in my searching last time and we (the SLP and I are spearheading this) think it is the best option. She is presenting her recommendation to the spec ed coordinator tomorrow. If everything gets approved without any fuss, I am hoping we'll be on track soon. In the meantime, Aubrie can't write well enough to do her spelling tests accurately. I tested her orally tonight and she did fine until the dictation sentence so we'll manage until we get things in order -- as long as it happens relatively soon. I'm happy to think that we're finally making progress. Michele Membership of this email support groups does not constitute membership in the CHARGE Syndrome Foundation. Guest guest
's new job sounds so wonderful! If the family as accepting as they sound, it could be an awesome experience for her. When the right people with the right attitudes are involved, things can be so positive. Michele

Guest guest
Tim had a program called intelli Talk in first grade for spelling words--the teacher said the words he typed them and then she printed it out---worked well. they got the product, not the process and he was less frustrated. also they had a cookie sheet and magnetic letters we used at home and school instead of writing the words 3 times. worked for us. tech update > We had Aubrie's IEP this morning to discuss PT after her hip surgery.
