Guest guest
I need some help! My 2.5 yr old son has felt sick for the past 3 days and hasn't eaten/drank much. How do you know if the sickness is expected during the valtrex treatment or if you should lower the dosage/stop temporarily? He started valtrex 12 days ago (ramped up to 750mg/day) and was on acyclovir before that for 1 month (some gains in speech, rash present, but little neg rxn to acyclovir). We did the acyclovir b/c we couldn't get him to take the crushed valtrex. We just got the valtrex suspension and switched him 12 days ago. He has sky-high HHV-6 titers and constant fever blister outbreaks. We also are considering adding in lauricidin on top of the valtrex (per DAN doctor) to stop the fever blisters. We lowered his valtrex dose last night to see if he would feel better and his lips erupted with fever blisters! So, we feel like we need to at least keep the 750mg and then maybe inc to 1000mg. He had a runny nose and congestion for 2 days which disappeared. No fever, though. Today he wanted to be held a lot and looked miserable. He has napped for 4 hrs (1st nap in 4 wks). He stopped eating any solid foods and will only eat organic baby foods (fruits, veg), preferably warm ones (maybe has sore throat?) He has never drank liquids much (we've tried everything) and now will not drink anything. We are concerned about continuing valtrex with little liquid intake. He still has wet diapers, though due to the baby food. He has rashes on his torso and legs (2 types: one yeasty-looking and one pin-dot red - viral/metals?). He is on valtrex, diflucan, probiotics, glutathione, acid reflux meds (prevacid, bethanechol), cod liver oil, multivitamin, minerals, zinc, vit D, magnesium malate (to pull aluminum) and digestive enzymes. He is also on GF/CF/SF/corn-free diet, with no sugar and very little grains of any sort (almost SCD diet, with a little rice). What can we do to help our little guy feel better? Continue valtrex and inc dosage? Stop treatment? Add lauricidin? Any ideas on how to get him to drink? We've even syringed in water in the past in desperation. Thanks!!!!
