But then you keep doing it and it gets better. I was offered a job making $10.50/hr with benefits (which is good for Daytona Beach), but then I was offered an at-home position paying $0.05 per line. I know someone who works for this lady and she averages $20/hr. I don't think I have made over $6/hr average since I started at the beginning of July. I'm slow (but accurate). I think part of my problem is equipment - I need a better chair and a WORD EXPANDER. So, I ask questions when I can't find or verify something and I always try to let everyone know how grateful I am that they take the time to help me. I hope one day I can be of help to someone else. Stick with it. MT has a lot of excellent qualities to keep you from quitting. What else can you do that you can be in tears one minute (from pulling your hair out) and laughing the next (because sometimes people say the dumbest things)! Everyone here knows I've been doing this a long time, but no one has ever been rude to me when I posted a question, and I've posted lots of them. No matter what your training or experience, this is a field where you cannot possibly know everything about every specialty - and even knowing the raw basics is quite a feat. I thought I was going to drop dead when I tried my first couple of op notes when I first started working. I had real doctor dictation in my course for practice, but it still wasn't as fast and jumbled sounding as what I got when I started working. Now though, I can just about do all of the doctors without much trouble. You just have to get used to the different dictators and what terms and phrases they use a lot.
