Guest guest
Michele, Thanks for thinking of me. About 5 years ago I got a red rough spot on my nose. It didn't go away after a couple of weeks and got a little bigger. It peeled often. I waited a couple of months to see if it would go away. It didn't. Dr.use liquid nitrogen to freeze it off. It came back again near the original spot about 6 mo. later. I repeated the same process with a precancerous spot on each cheek. Same with my arm. A little red spot gets bigger and bigger. I believe this type is basal cell carcinoma ( SP?) If left untreated it can go to the bone but not to organs etc. The black irregular spots are more serious. I don't have those at this time. My current arm spot showed up about Mother's day and is now about 4 times the original size. My doctor is the best in the area and you have to usually wait two weeks or more to get in. I waited until after school was out to call. I didn't have time to go in May. Then I decided I didn't want to deal with a biopsy healing over my vacation. I am not really frightened, just always on the look out for red spots that grow. I act on them much sooner than I used to because I understand they will not go away. Things could be worse. Lynn re: Update Lynn- I'm so sorry to hear about the recurring skin cancer! Not only is an inconvenience and painful, but it must be downright frightening. I'm also fair, not to the same degree as you though, and burned all the time as a child. How did you first notice the problem? Guest guest
I understand about doctor visit routines. and I still have them. Even at 19, last week said, " After Dr. Arnold's appointment are we going to Applebee's and shopping. " We have done that for many many years. Yes, we did both. Dad's do tend to change things. Doug always adds a trip to Half Price Books when he rides along. Doug and I and maybe ( has to work, got tomorrow off) will go about a half an hour south of here to an Antique Tractor Show with crafts and flea market. Another tradition. goes every year and last year went too. We invited tomorrow but sleeping in may win over this year. She is up each morning at 7AM to go to work. Doug and I enjoy rambling among the tractors and steam tractors. and Doug and I love the flea market. I do the craft area. Happy 4th of July to the entire CHARGE family. Lynn Re: Update Lynn- I'm glad to know that your skin cancer isn't a threatening type. I was nervous several years ago when I noticed tiny (and I do mean tiny) red dots on my chest -- the area that is exposed to sun and got burned every summer of my life. I thought the worst but had my sister's then-boyfriend who was a med student look and have had dr's here and there take a peek. They all say it's nothing. The dots haven't changed in years. They are like little tiny blood spots under the skin -- like the size of a pore or a head of a pin. Really no big deal but I have to wonder why they are there. Glad they are not growing. With fair skin and the kind of burns we all got " back back in the day " , I'm always watching for moles or marks that change. I worry about them being in a spot I wouldn't notice but I guess that's silly cuz they would be in an area that had lots of sun exposure. When I say, I " worry " , I don't mean obsessively -- just a thought across my mind on occasion. Well -- I don't think I've rambled quite like that in a long time :-) Lucky you to be the grand-prize recipient! Have a happy 4th of July! We're off to Shriners and to give blood tomorrow. A dr appt with DJ along. Don't know if I'll love that or hate it. Aubrie and I have routines that Dad just doesn't know about or understand :-). Either he'll cramp our style, or we'll love having a family day (minus who found himself a friend to spend the day with rather than go to dr visits with us -- smart boy). More rambling-- Take care-- Michele Membership of this email support groups does not constitute membership in the CHARGE Syndrome Foundation.
