Can't help on ants but are compost heaps more trouble than they're worth?

We've had millions of fruit flies again, someone left the door open and the

futility room and kitchen were alive with them. I don't think they do any

harm but I prefer not to ingest several each time I take a sip of wine, to

which they seem particular.

My compost heap is teaming with ants. Is this a problem? and if it is, what
