Thanks Jon,

I have never billed for traction because we do not have a machine. What amount

is CPT 97012 typically reimbursed? Does Medicare reimburse for this code?

Thanks for your candid reply.

Hi Mike,

I don't know much about North Carolina's Local Coverage Determination

policies but under Arkansas' we are reimbursed for 97012 for the following

ICD 9 Codes:

333.83

Acute spasmodic torticollis

333.85

Subacute kyskinesia due to drugs

353.2

Cervical root lesions, NEC

353.4

Lumbosacral lesions NEC

721.0

Cervical spondylosis w/o myelopathy

721.3

Lumbosacral spondylosis w/o myelopathy

722.0

Intervertebral disc disorders

722.10

Lumbar intervertebral disc w/o myelopathy

722.4

Degeneration of cervical intervertebral disc

722.52

Degeneration of lumbar or lumbosacral intervertebral disc

722.91

Other and unspecified disc disorder; cervical region

722.93

Other and unspecified disc disorder; lumbar region

723.1

Cervicalgia

723.5

Torticollis, unspecified

723.8

Other syndromes affecting cervical region

724.02

Other and unspecified disorders of the back; lumbar region

724.2-724.5

Lumbago, sciatica, neuritis, radiculitis, backache

847.0

Sprains and strains of other and unspecified parts of back; neck

847.2

Sprains and strains of other and unspecified parts of back; lumbar

953.0

Injury to nerve roots and spinal plexus; cervical root

953.2

Injury to nerve roots and spinal plexus; lumbar

953.3

Injury to nerve roots and spinal plexus; sacral

Our Medicare Fee schedule reimburses $13.45 for this code and in looking at

some of our other contracts, we get up to $21.52 from some insurance

companies. This is a far cry from what the DC's are asking patients to pay

for " spinal decompression " .
