Hi Sara

Here is the latest I just received from the Wisconsin Physical Therapy

Association

" Therapy Cap Bill Blocked in the Senate Last Night But Could be Considered Again

Today

A proposal to provide short-term therapy cap and physician fee schedule relief

was blocked last night when Senator Jim Bunning (R-KY) objected to the bill

being brought up under Unanimous Consent. However, it now appears that Senate

Majority Leader Harry Reid may bring up the measure again later today, but in a

slightly different framework that would allow for passage with a minimum of 60

votes.

Senate action will not occur until late this afternoon or sometime this

evening. Congressional leaders from both parties are currently meeting with

President Obama at the White House Health Care Summit.

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) has announced that if the Senate clears

the bill, the House is prepared to act on it in an expedited manner. The House

Rules Committee has approved a provision that would allow the House to consider

the Senate-passed bill as soon as it is received.

There was some momentary confusion last night regarding actions taken by the

Senate. After the objection stopped the short-term extenders bill, Senator Reid

called up a House-passed bill that would provide for a permanent SGR fix. He

offered an amendment to the bill that replaced all of the SGR language with text

that would extend provisions of the Patriot Act for one year. The Senate passed

this measure and sent it back to the House. It is important to note that the

Senate-passed bill is no longer an SGR bill. The short-term physician fee

schedule fix will continue to be a part of the therapy cap extenders bill.

While the situation remains confusing and somewhat tenuous, behind-the-scenes

work is being done to enable Congress to pass this important legislation before

it adjourns for the weekend. APTA and our therapy cap allies are continuing to

press for prompt action, and we will keep you informed as events occur later

today and tonight. "

Medicare caps

Anyone aware of any work happening at present in Congress regarding the

Medicare cap exception process and the scheduled reduction in the

physician fee schedule?
