Guest guest
Hi Carol, Oh to be 40 again, how I wish, but wishing won't make it so unfortunatly. That is a great age and you will feel better but it will take some time for that to happen and some nurturing of your poor old bod that has been through a bit. I'll let someone else do the tests but to just say that they may have used a different lab to do the tests, or the lab had a complete reno. Don't give up just think of yourself as being in the convalesing stage and there could be some tweeking to do. Dawn > I just got my latest test results. Guest guest
((((((((((Carol)))))))))))) Go with your feelings......Even though the results are better, It seems that the levels of the Frees should be higher. That may help you to get close to that 100% feeling. The Free T4 should be in the upper half at least of the range and you are about at the half of the range. The Free T3 should be in the upper quandrant or even slightly above, and you are at the mid of the range.Hope this helps.. Feisty OK, need some input on my latest results!!! I just got my latest test results. Here we go, please tell me what you all think: TSH – 1.0 Free T4 – 1.33 (.7 – 1.8) Free T3 – 2.5 (1.5 – 3.5) These were my results back in September: TSH 10.70 (.40 – 5.50) Free T4 1.08(.08 – 1.8) Free T3 2.26 (2.30 – 4.20) ** I just realized their ranges changed in 4 months ** I have a feeling you all are going to tell me I look fine – it sure looks like it to me. I take 100 mcg of synthroid every morning at 5 AM and have been on that since December 2nd after steadily increasing from 25. I also take a B-complex and 400 mcg of selenium a day. I have to say that I do feel much better now than I did when I joined this group in September. It is 1:43 in Los Angeles and I would be passed out from fatigue right about now if nothing had changed. But I still don’t have that feeling that I am back to 100% or close. I do still get really tired at points in the day, for no reason other than sitting at my desk. And I am still struggling with weight loss that used to come pretty easy to me. Is this it for me? Is this as good as it gets? I turn 40 this year – my sister seems to think, this is to blame for most of my problems. Any thoughts that I can use? Carol
Guest guest
You guessed wrong.. I"m gonna say that your Free T3 is still low... IMHO taking into consideration that you aren't feeling 'right' yet. Most folks say that they feel better with the T3 in the upper part of the range.... You're already doing selenium..... I assume staying away from Goitrogens.... how are you doing with meals? Eating regularly, not skipping? How about calcium and iron... keep them away from your Synthroid dose? Oh.. the lab is still using the OLD lab ranges.... and the doc isn't calling them on it.... and... well.. if your Free T3 is still low... that heads me down that oh so familiar road...... Natural thyroid .... Armour, or a generic... it's got T3 in it... and if your T3 conversion is a bit lacking... probably your T2 and T1 conversion is too.... soooo ponder on it a bit... you're feeling better.... no regrets so far... maybe it's time to get a bit more assertive with the doc? What was his/her comments on your results? As for the ranges on the Ts changing... the ranges are different depending on which method they use to determine the values... so if they used a different method this time that would account for the change... Did you get a dosage increase? Topper () On Thu, 20 Jan 2005 13:46:09 -0800 "Carol M. s" writes: I just got my latest test results. Guest guest
I eat pretty regularly and never skip meals…I am always amused by people who say they “forget” to eat. It seems like I am always hungry. I don’t take iron or calcium (probably not a good thing). I think actually that this is a good time to change GPs. I see doctors pretty regularly for other reasons, and as far as these last results go, I got a sheet of paper in the mail saying “Thyroid tests were normal and a little handwritten note that said “your test results were fine – stay on the 100 mcg of Synthroid, you are doing great (rah rah!!) and call me if there is a problem.” So I did. That was actually how I got the results…when I got her on the phone, to ask what the results were; she said “I sent you something saying they were fine” and I said, “No, what were the results? I understand levels and ranges, you can tell me” I of course don’t understand diddily but so what. I asked if I could go to 125 and I told her how I still felt and she said (again) “But your levels are fine – maybe the problem is not your thyroid.” She knows I have had every blood work up known to mankind, so now I am irritated. “Do you want to see an endocrinologist?” I said sure, she said she would send out my referral paperwork and that was that. This just does not seem to be working out. I have leftover 25s and 50s, what do you think about me taking those along with my 100 pill in the AM? Do you think it would make any difference? Or will that screw me up since my holy TSH level is so low right now? Carol From: topper2@... Guest guest
Hi Carol, What about your B12 and other CBC levels, I had similar with my doc and had to get down right b....y to get him to understand that I still felt lousy. At least you are being referred which is a step ahead of me, I was sent to an internist who looked at me for all of 30 seconds and told me that I had sleep apnea. Oh well, sleep study on the 4th will tell. But I would get those tests done and others that will make sure that you aren't anemic,[but that's me]. I now get B12 shots and take extra every day in a B complex which I would reccommend also a multi one too. I did cut my 100 synthroid into 4 and take the extra and it made me feel a bit better and I felt even more so when they started the B12. When I told the doc that I was cutting the pills he had to be peeled off the ceiling, but the blood test that he did right then and there, was fine. So, I am now on .125mg synthroid but still not feeling the best, but getting there as I am learning something new to do if not every day at least every week. One day we will all be so well we will be doing the highland fling down main street. Dawn > I eat pretty regularly and never skip meals.I am always amused by people who > say they " forget " to eat. Guest guest
Okay.. strictly personal opinion here.... if it were me.. I'd split a 25 and take the additional 12.5 with the other 100. Then go see the endo and explain that I did that based on the fact that I still feel like crap and my Free T3 is still WAY too low... I decided that since I still had the left over pills that I could make this slight adjustment up until I could see the endo and discuss going on Armour to get the additional T3 that I soooo desperately need. Starting dose would be 1 grain. Which contains 38 mcg of T4 and 9 mcg of T3 for a total equivalency of 74 mcg of T4. That's less than what I'm on now, but my body needs a chance to adjust to the direct T3. I'd like to come back in 4 weeks to check labs to see how I'm doing with my levels and then, if needed, go up to 1 1/4 grain which would be 47.5 mcg of T4 and 11.25 mcg of T3 for a total equivalency of 133 mcg of T4. I'll continue charting during that time to me sure that my system is adjusting and call if there are any negative symptoms. Here are how my temps and pulse rate has been doing since I started at 112.5 mcg of T4, as you can see....... .... if it were me... But I"m kinda gutzy now and have a track record of really crappy doctors.... hehehehe If the doc says he won't do Armour but will add a synthetic T3, like Cytomel.. remember that T3 is FOUR times a powerful as T4 when you are figuring equivalencies. Guest guest
Why are these swings looking Hashimoto's Disease? Big TSH, with almost the same T4 and T3, even with a much smaller TSH. Looks like the confusion of Hashi's to me. Refresh my memory, have you had autoantibodies testing? Antithyroidperoxidase and Antithyroglobulin antibodies? OK, need some input on my latest results!!! I do still get really! tired at points in the day, for no reason other than sitting at my desk. And I am still struggling with weight loss that used to come pretty easy to me. Is this it for me? Is this as good as it gets? I turn 40 this year – my sister seems to think, this is to blame for most of my problems. Any thoughts that I can use? Carol
