A large NFP health system in our community has been purchasing family MD practices. According to the referral coordinators we have spoken to, all ancillary referrals (including PT) must be made within the health system. If a patient is referred to a practitioner outside the health system, the coordinator receives a " demerit " . I'm not sure what choice if any is offered to the patient.
