Guest guest
From the SCD website (http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/knowledge_base/kb/casein_sensitivity.htm):Goat's milk may also have advantages when it comes to allergies. Goat's milk contains only trace amounts of an allergenic casein protein, alpha-S1, found in cow's milk. Goat's milk casein is more similar to human milk, yet cow's milk and goat's milk contain similar levels of the other allergenic protein, beta lactoglobulin.I have always taken this to mean that it depends on personal casein sensitivity. I asked Dr. Megson about this and she said the allergy testing sometimes show someone allergic to casein (I'm assuming they use the alpha-S1 in that test) but okay with goat milk. She said as long as our family was tolerating it that it sounded fine to her until we get the allergy results to continue. Also, I have a VERY leaky gut (celiac diagnosis via blood testing - but I think it may actually be just leaky gut) and the goat milk products seem to be okay for me too. LaLoo's goat milk ice cream is a godsend and the goat butter and goat milk/yogurt/cheese was really helpful because I just couldn't handle the coconut/rice/almond/soy stuff. I can tell within minutes of accidentally ingesting cow milk but goat milk is fine for me.- Kati Begin forwarded message:So do you think goat and sheep milk would be ok??? I tried coconut milk tonight. That didn't go over very well at all. I've been pretty successful finding decent gfcf alternatives to my kid's favorites and we're just about ready to go ahead 100% with the diet once school ends. But it's the darn milk! And that's a biggie in my house. My son asked for choc milk tonight so I figured that would be the perfect opportunity to try it out. By the second sip, he was sniffing his drink. I was busted. lol. It should be fine for his smoothies and such in the morning and for recipes. But just to have a cup of milk or a bowl of cereal, ha! They'll laugh me right out of the house. We've tried rice, coconut, and almond. No. No. And no. I hate to just take away milk altogether and snacks that go hand in hand with milk, but I may not have much a choice and that will lead to mutiny for sure!
