Guest guest
Hi, My friend's child (9 year old boy) had his hair tested and his DDI results did not indicate mercury. However, he has almost EVERY autistic symptom you can name. His history fits very well with the autistic profile, too. The hair test had the following odd results: Calcium 407 160-500 white over/under Magnesium 26 12-50 white over/under Sodium 2.0 12-90 red under Potassium <3 10-40 red UNDER-As Far Left as Possible! His Tin was high--in the yellow. 0.57 where the reference range was <0.3. His Zinc was high--in the yellow and close to the red. He had 230 where the reference range was 110-190. He takes 75 mg of zinc a day, but the test explanation indicated that when zinc is high in the hair, it is often low in the body and it is wasted showing up in the hair. Andy feels that his test probably means that he does not have mercury toxicity. Also, Andy believes that we are looking at an adrenal function problem. I am confident that Andy is correct in his analysis, but I am still curious. Have any of you parents out there seen this type of result in a child with many autistic traits? Any suggestions for my friend would be helpful. Where to go from here and what to check. Thanks, in Salt Lake City
Guest guest
You asked about regression--yes. The Mom looked it up and saw regression about 2-21/2. As for problems around vaccinations--the Mom could not be sure. Andy, I looked up low sodium and low potassium on a hair test and many of the references pointed to adrenal problems. However, an article by Lawrence , MD, indicated that low potassium on the hair test is associated with copper imbalance. The article said this was true even if the hair copper level is in the normal range. I also saw references to ceruloplasmin malfunctioning and celiac disease. What do you think? I have no idea how credible theses suggestions are. I'm able to post again! Thanks for your help with my friend's child. in Salt Lake and mother of (we are on day two of chelation and doing well)

Was there regression during the second year (age 1-2, typically at 18 months), and were there notable changes after vaccinations? This is the most typical history nowadays and does usually go along with mercury being the problem. Andy . . . . . . . . . .

Guest guest
My son's first hair test showed high calcium and very low sodium and potassium but it also showed high toxic metals as well. At the time, he was very lethargic and we had a lot of difficulty getting him to sit up for long periods but it was also alternated with periods of extreme hyperactivity. We started an electrolyte drink called Elyte at the time and it helped him tremendously. Gaylen
Guest guest
Gaylen, Thanks for your reply! Did you believe your son had mercury toxicity? I am just wondering if the very low sodium and potassium is masking the real problem for my friend's child. Andy--who is so knowledgeable--said that his hair test suggests he is not mercury poisoned. However, this kid has every symptom, although he is is able to mainstream in a 3rd grade class. To mainstream he needs a full-time aid and the public school system is willing to pay for it! You know that they do not tend to do that unless the situation is extreme. What are your thoughts, Gaylen? Anyone?

Hi , There are a lot of things that your friend could try -- but I don't know which ones are " best " to do first. Here are a few possibilities: get child's head/spine checked by an osteopath trained in cranial manipulation; get vision checked by behavioral optometrist; sound therapy / AIT; digestive enzymes Also of course following up on the adrenal issues would be a good idea. best wishes, Moria
