Guest guest
We have a thing we call a Roma It's made by britax, but I can only find the instruction leaflet with the non english languages! However this much I can tell you - it's continental name is Britax Romer Vario (the o in romer has a " on the top!) It's for 15 -25kg (approx 3.5 to 7yrs) the child sits on the seat of the car and the roma goes on their lap/legs - like a tunnel. there is a slot that the seat belt runs through either lap strap or both parts of a 3 point. The top of the tunnel is flat, slightly padded and vinal (why can't I spell that word today!) covered. the rest has a fabric cover. it comes some way up the child's chest and so prevents the jack-knife which would happen with a lap belt in a crash. Because the area that is in contact with the child's ribs is fairly large I think that it would protect rather than damage. We have been using one of these for a while now, DS2 who is 7 really likes it, he sometimes struggles to get the belt 'clunked' for himself as it is tight enough to be safe!, but DS1 sits next to him and is happy to give it the extra push needed. I think we bought it at the AA shop in Edinburgh (before it closed), but Britax should be able to tell you where you can get one. It fits fine between two car seats/ booser cushions in the back of a Renault Savanna estate, but that's quite wide. HTH Liz Goudie
