Nothing gets by you. I hadn't noticed it, but I'm glad you did. I could only find one small article that mentions it http://www.rollcall.com/pages/columns/rothenberg/00/roth0508.html " The fact that he has a disability - he suffers from hearing loss in both ears, has had three ear operations and wears a hearing aide - is also an asset. " But, I found a picture of him and, sure enough, there it is! http://www.icdc.com/~lynch/Photographer/Publ/Ridge.htm I found an earlier one (he's much younger in it) of him where he's wearing an ITE one, but this one shows him wearing a BTE. Guest guest
I heard one of the news commentators making reference to his hearing loss during the swearing in ceremony. Barb Tom Ridge and hearing loss Has anybody else picked up on the fact that the new head of Homeland Security, Tom Ridge, has a hearing loss? At his swearing in I noticed a BTE hearing aid on his left ear and just assumed that it was some sort of media thing, fm or whatever...but today I looked further and he actually has a significant hearing loss. Evidently it has something to do with childhood ear infection and got worse in Vietnam. I have not found a really good link to info about it so if anyone finds something, please post it to the list. Guest guest
His ear mold isn't nearly as pretty as my daughters. Seriously, maybe these two men will help educate the public on hearing loss and deafness. Guest guest
I heard a commentator too - The statement was that he has a congenital hearing loss. The commentator said that rumors were circulating that his loss worsened due to an injury in Vietnam but stated that was not true. That's all that was said. I contact his office when my daughter was born, because we hit so many walls trying to get things working in the early intervention system, and trying to get signs up on our street. His office was a big help to us, in directing us and giving us the names of the people I needed to talk to, to get the ball rolling with her. I " believe " he was also the person that developed The Special Kids Network, a free organization in Pa to help parents of special needs children find help and support.
