Guest guest
When Dylan was younger I knew Dylan needed tactual sign, but I just couldn't figure it out on my own. When someone finally showed me how to place our hands together it clicked. It is really quite easy. We use ASL signs, Dylan just places his hands on top of mine, so when I sign he feels the movements. I often wonder how on earth he figures out what the hand shapes mean, because he is not feeling my whole hand at once, but then I watch adults walking along doing tactual sign with one hand and being guided (sighted guide) with the other, all the while just talking away and I know he will get it. For us engagement happens with the proximity and touch of tactual sign. He looks at my face better and attends to what his hands are doing better. Any site that teaches signs should work. Dylan's tactual sign is different than co-active sign. In co-active sign I would form and move his hands to make the sign. He hated it. He loves tactual sign, it is respectful. It is as if he is seeing me sign with his hands. Kim L tactile communication sites We would like to start tactile communication with Whitney. Does anyone know of a website with useful pictures, (ie everyday useful words, bed, bath, hungry, etc.), that would help us? Thanks, DeAnn, Mom to Austin 9, 5, CHARgE Whitney 14 months (recovering well from open heart surgery)

Guest guest
De Ann If you have a digital camera you can take photos of whatever you need. We used this method with until Elly her younger sister sabotaged their use. Her school and us still use photos together with pictures (drawn images) for her signing book. In the UK a CD rom has been produced showing images with their BSL sign underneath. Simon

Guest guest
DeAnn, what country are you in? Here in Australia, we have videos which demonstrate individual communication methods, and most of the early communication is based on touch cues, object cues and gestures, but of course the signs we use are based on Auslan, not ASL...
