Guest guest
I forgot to mention that the last bunch of food eaten, not including my lunch which was the creamed cheese/two sliced brown bread lunch Ken B where did I get all these carbs/highbloodcount from? I had a bowl of cereal this morning, I had two slices of good variety brown bread, the heavy type, with a generous amount of cream cheese on each half slice, I had three chicken/with batter/light,andand some frozen vegies, *fried a little in Basel margerine, but here's the catch, I had a glass of a kinda of kool aide drink, I thing I did it for ssure on the drink; I got an amazing blood count too high! I'm a little mythed on the hight count, but thinking about it again, maybe the kraft creamed cheese was was too much despite the reading from the label, *1 carg per 1 table spoon of philadelphia creamed cheese! I've noticed that one cannot always get a predictable reading as our system holds sugers from not only today, but days of the past. Any comments would be welcomed. Ken B in Toronto. Guest guest
Ken, Cereal and brown bread are all loaded with carbs. Also, if you had regular (not low fat) cream cheese, the fat delays the digestion of the carbs from the bread and will give you a high BG longer than usual after eating. Guest guest
Hi Ken, Some of the brown bread is very high in carbs like white bread and same with the cereal. What kind and how much cereal did you eat? Did you exercise very much today? Don't forget the chicken if breaded is another bunch of carbs. I doubt it is the cream cheese is the culprit and the only way the Kool-Aid did it is if it was not sugar free. Guest guest
I use the light cream cheese. I only eat one slice of toast but then I'm really not a bread eater unless it is hot bread such as a biscuit, cornbread or a bagel or muffin. Just a thought! Guest guest
Lots of good responses, but here's one more comment. Actually, I think Ruth or Pat alluded to this. Fat will tend to play havoc with blood sugars because of the time factor. Remember, everything ultimately gets converted into blood glucose, it's just a matter of when. And, foods high in fat, and most notably saturated fat (look at the nutritional data on the product), will end up being the hardest to deal with. Dave A wise man's heart guides his mouth, and his lips promote instruction. (Proverbs 16:23) where did I get all these carbs/highbloodcount from? Guest guest
Hi Joyce, As good as bagels are I would not suggest them to anybody. They have 72 grams of carb in them which blows a day's worth of carbs or half of what the ADA prescribes. Just something to keep in mind. Guest guest
As we like to mention here, we are all different. for instance, I will enjoy half a bagel now and then. In fact, I had half a bagel a couple of hours ago, with a light coating of peanut butter! And, not all of us can tolerate peanut butter, but it comes down to, trial and error for some foods. Also, I must add, as a type 1, I am able to adjust my Humalog insulin slightly to accommodate something like a bagel. Ruth is right though, an entire bagel would really be pushing the carb count, and especially for a diabetic who may be overweight and/or inactive. Guest guest
Hi Ruth; Well, I usually have about 75 carbs of cereal, *as I've figured it out to that count, for my breakfast each day* because of my weight being about 232 pounds and height, 6 1, the nurse said I should not go any higher than 75 carbs per meal. My giggest fight is supper!...I really try to limit myself, but sometimes, when carbs are taken at less 775 carbs I allow myself a cookie or two. I know that I also have to wat ch the whites, such as w bread, w rice, w anything, so sometimes I forget to watch whites, and I get into trouble. I'm glad though, that I have not gained any new weight. Of corse, up here in Canada, we watch our counts differently in certain units than you our cousines do. We're waiting for the Prodogy ukp here and that will allow my wife to be free taking my blood count as it gets somewhat minotonus but she is good, and never misses. Nice to talk to all of you reading my msg and any comments is really welcomed. Ken B where did I get all these carbs/highbloodcount from? Guest guest
Well, Francis, I surely found that out. So even though the creamed cheese has a low carb count, it still assists the other carbs of bread or whatever ay? TXS Francis; Ken B where did I get all these carbs/highbloodcount from? Guest guest
Hi Ken, It's just that some brown breads are worse than others. Take a look at the bag. One kind of bread we can get up here in Canada is Dempster's Healthy Way body conscious bread. Try that one it is low on carbs. They say we crave carbs so maybe try filling up on the veggies more. It might help curb the munchies as they say. Don't worry, we are all human and a cookie now and again is not the worst thing in the world just not all the time. As for the Prodigy, I hope to have more answers next week.
