He has played for 8 or 9 years, many all-star teams and we just returned from the National AYSO games in New York (West Point), where he played in the boys under 14 group. His team came in 5th place and won the sportmanship award. It was the first time any of us had been to NY, and we were hit by the HOT weather. We (all 35 members of our group) spent 3 days in New York City after the tournament. The coach has learned how to get his attention and can communicate with him well. He has been playing for so many years, that he knows what to do on the field-tho it's probably different for a younger child just learning.
