Guest guest
I really think this would be a great diet for my daughter from what I have been able to read about it, but I can't afford the whole start up form their website, is there a cheaper way to find out about how to do this diet? Thanks! Kristi To: mb12 valtrex Sent: Sat, May 22, 2010 9:41:58 PMSubject: Re: Re: Feingold - Something to Consider , Congrats! That's awesome news! I'm trying to get my 4 year old over the recovery hump. I will keep this in mind. Thanks for sharing! (and I didn't necessarily remove sugar at all. Which also feeds yeast. He has eaten french toast w/syrup and blueberry muffins (safe, all ingredients on the 'diet.' -- he was cool as a cucumber. *Cucumbers aren't allowed and he of course, gets his juicer juice in the morning. He also did his 'speech' homework sitting down, and read three books in a row - even asked a question (very unlike him). Another thing he has done is got dressed himself, and let me cut his nails without having to do one hand (let him run around for about 15 minutes) and then do the other one. He actually said - "here's another hand." We were done in less than three minutes. He's calm and thoughtful. ..and I am not running around trying to clean up all his crazy messes - he put away his flashcards this morning, and honestly, I was in shock. I won't lie - Jimmy's tests still show yeast issues. And the items that seemed to clear up - literally overnight - was chewing, tantrums, focus (he sat at the breakfast table this morning for entire 15 minutes, ate with a fork, and didn't steal his sisters food.) And he also played (w/his sister) for over an hour. Usually it's a fight session after 5-10 minutes. I have actually felt like I have this very normal child this morning...and it's nice...laura >> could also be that grape juice is a yeast feeder> > Feingold - Something to Consider> > > > Hi all, > > Wanted to update. Jimmy (my son) is doing great. Everyone seems to be happy with his progress (gained 3 years of speech in 11 months - I'm thrilled.) We are two weeks from our one year mark...> > The last couple of weeks - a few people had posted (as I am beginning to believe that there are a few of us that have very similar issues with our children - that could benefit from this info.) that although their child's diet improved with food due to the zinc and juicing supplementation, they noticed a significant increase in energy - possibly hyperactivity. > > I had not really noticed this in my child, as I wasn't really looking for it, nor I was I concerned because I was more focused on his speech and his cognitive. He has gained weight and height and he is is finally over the 90% in all categories and we have really struggled to get here...so it didn't occur to me (as I thought it was just because he was a boy!) that he is SO full of energy, but also doesn't deal with disappointment well, or can focus (will only sit at meals for 3-5 minutes) and when someone asks him a question, he will answer it, and then just keep going, and answer it again. I thought it was he was practicing.. .but I've noticed it's gotten progressively more pronounced. > > And honestly, I thought that he was so typical for his age - even with this 'boy' energy - except for his speech. (As a lot of NT children have displayed some of these behaviors)> > About a week ago, I had suggested that Jimmy drinks too much orange juice, and he should try another juice (more watered down), his Dad gave him Welch's white grape juice (as it's an okay item on the diet) -- and we both noticed that he got extremely agitated to the point he was being truly mean to his sister. He doesn't do this, and it's new. We also were concerned because he seemed to adopt some of the old behaviors from a year ago, (now we were very worried.) -- and I think the sobering item was his eyes were like they were when he was on dairy and wheat...> > We went over everything he ate with a fine tooth comb. What we found was 'metasulphites. ' -- I didn't know what this ingredient was, and my husband said it was the only white grape juice in the store...> > We looked it up, and what we found was it's in a group called "salicylate" - so is white grape juice. So, I looked up this type of food and found the Feingold diet. We have been on this diet (along with our IGG foods removed & GF/CF, Corn, Soy, Wheat Free) -- for about 4 days - and it's been nothing short of a miracle. He's sweet, focused and calm. I mean, CALM. And truly focused. His speech has even taken off to the point where his filler words are very minimal - in 4 days. He has shocked his speech therapist, and quite frankly, me. > > Here is the interesting part: Those with kids with issues in speech, zinc (low), possibly iron deficient (anemia) and hyper (full of energy, spirited) children, might find this additional elimination of this subgroup of foods beneficial. (I know, like it's just another thing they can't seem to have.) - along with nightly epsom salt baths. > > I thought I would try it for two weeks to see the results, and I think today really spoke for itself. He's even back to potty training (on his own - even agreed to poop on potty and not a diaper!!) And he tossed out his pacifier. (which is amazing in itself.) Stopped chewing on his shirts (that started a couple of weeks ago), and tags aren't bothering him as much any more. > > Another interesting item is - I put my brother Rob on it too (as it's a family thing!), and yesterday he offered to go and get the mail (something I have been trying to coax him into doing for the past 5 months) - without prompting. He asked a couple of questions and walked out the door. I about fell over. (and he came back with the mail! - Even got it again today!)> > I was on my way to the SCD diet (which I am still looking into and implementing slowly) -- but the Feingold elimination -- really has taken us to the 1 skip from full 'recovery' for my son and I also got an extra bonus from my brother -- and I have this feeling that SCD - is just going to bring us home...> > Although, the Welch's Grape Juice Debacle was pretty bad (and enlightening) , I feel like I have another piece to this puzzle...> > And some more good news - I had Rob (25) assessed in reading - because I felt like I was missing something - I was under the impression he had a 4th grade reading level (as put in his IEP in the last year of his high school - and I was giving him work for the 2nd and 3rd grade) - turns out - he's 8th grade. He has some gaps (in mechanical aspects). He even did 12th grade work - but was 'struggling' - so we are going to work in the 7th grade level (to ease him into it for a few weeks) and work him up to getting thru 12th grade so that he can pass a GED to prepare him for college and life...What an eyeopening experience. But the interesting part - he sat for 4 hours to do the assessment - he has never been able to sit that long. As he fidgets and does this leg shaking thing.> > I haven't received my book yet from Amazon over the Feingold diet, but removed the foods from the website, and we had already eliminated (about 98%) of all the food additives, etc. So I think that is why I got results so quickly...(I also quit buying Rice Chex because they add additives and bought rice puffs without) We were also doing the epsom salt baths too. > > Everyone noticed the change right away...and the kids at his Mom's day out program, were really engaging yesterday as he was Mr. Talkative and he was more on target on the way he presents his communication - better syntax, better sentence structure, etc. The kids were very interested in things he had to say and invited him to be a part of the group. > > So for you that may have similar issues, it's something to explore. The item that struck me was the zinc issue that is related with the Feingold foods. (as it's been an ongoing issue in this house) -- as it fit Jimmy perfectly. I know that a lot of you are having some of the same problems...and thought I would throw it out there. > > I am not necessarily sure if my child was underweight or not eating a variety of vegetables or eating the caloric intake necessary to sustain a healthy weight would I add another elimination. In fact, I know that I wouldn't. That being said, if your child is a good weight, eating a good caloric intake and having these issues, it might be something to consider. Another option is it might be something to put on the back burner and when he/she does reach that milestone in the process, consider it. I am WOW'ed. > > Once I get a good diet in place, I am going to work on the SCD route, as I think it's a good place for us going forward. As even with the SCD, it's workable, (even though some of the foods have been eliminated.) - as I think I might be able to rotate some of the forbidden Feingold foods in eventually. (Maybe, maybe not.) - and I think "who cares!" -- my kid talks and we have these conversations! Never in a million years did I think we would get here this quickly...Thanks Welch's your crappy juice gave us a clue!> > Sorry, once again - a long post...> > laura>
