Re: zinc overload ?

My understanding is that zinc and selenium need to stay within a certain ratio

range (although I don't know what that range is) so too much zinc could put that

out of balance. S--- On Mon 12/30, autchic & lt; joannmrozinski@... & gt;

For my kids, they did fine with zinc so long as I did not give too

much, which made one of my kids hyper. I reduced the zinc and he was

fine.

After quite a number of rounds of ALA chelation, my son was getting

hyper again, so I removed the zinc, and he was back to normal.

Apparently at that time he no longer needed added zinc.

So from my son's experience, give zinc unless your child gets hyper

from it, then either reduce it or remove it.

Hi Dana,

Are you chelating with DMSA and lipoic? I'm wondering about DMSA and

ALA chelating out the zinc. My son can be pretty hyper and I often

wonder about his supplements causing this. We recently lowered my

son's zinc from 60mg to 40mg. Some time ago we went to Pfeiffer and

it was determined he had a zinc/copper imbalance. He hasn't been

retested so I'm really not sure where we stand with it.

Does anyone know the zinc/selenium ratio that was mentioned on a

previous post?

Thanks,

Kathy

P.S. Your kids are soooo cute!

Valentina, I disagree. I read that DMSA chelates zinc and many other

minerals. Once I did essential minerals urine test (while on DMSA)

and the excretion of almost all minerals was many times beyond the

chart. I think that's why we need to stop and replenish the minerals

between rounds.

ALA only.

Supplements are a major cause of hyper for many kids. What supps do

you give?

We recently lowered my

That is still high, especially if he may not need it. I would

consider reducing it even more, like maybe to 10 mg

I think so, but of course I am NOT biased!

We are using a boatload of supplements.

Calcium Citrate 1000mg

biotin 300mcg

chromium picolinate 100mcg

Kirkman Multivitamin Pro support

selenium 100mcg

molybdenum 250 mcg

vitamin D 200 IU

Vitamn C 1000 mg

milk thistle 200mg

Butyric -Cal-Mag 2 caps daily

Magnesium malate

Vitamin E 300 IU

Pro EPA

Pro DHA *These are daily values. I give

Culturelle and ProBio Gold many of them in divided doses.

Zinc Picolinate 40mg

4Life TF

We chelate using Andy's schedule with DMSA and ALA. On chelating days

we add in more Glycine and Taurine.

Just when I think I can start removing things, I come across

something new I wonder if we should try. I've been reading some

interesting things about cilantro and the BBB...according to my

reading it crosses and works much like ALA.

Anybody know about this?

Did you add them one at a time to see if they caused any problems?

I have never used the ones above, so I don't have personal experience.

What is in this one? Especially does it contain high B6 and/or P5P?

That is a common problem causing hyper for many kids.

This is much higher than RDA for both of these, so I would be

suspicious that your child might not need that much. For vitamin C,

many kids have problems with it and you might need to experiment with

supplier/source.

This is in addition to the calcium from the other supplement? Also

seems like too much magnesium.

Some kids don't tolerate probiotics, or don't tolerate some probiotics

but tolerate others.

Does it do anything that ALA does not do? If not, then I would advise

not to consider it at this time, because you have other issues to try

to work out.
