YOU Can HELP PREVENT One Cause of Birth Defects!

Accutane causes birth defects when it is taken during pregnancy. It

is a medication prescribed for acne; it is approved for SEVERE acne

but is often prescribed for mild and moderate cases. One of the most

common birth defects is malformation of the ears. The children

affected by Accutane have ears that are very similar to children with

CHARGE.

HR 4598, The Accutane Safety and Risk Management Act was introduced

to the House of Representatives on 6-16-04. It has been referred to

the Energy and Commerce Committe.

PLEASE WRITE YOUR LEGISLATORS asking for their support of this law.

Click on your state; then on contact by email. You can then type in a

letter (email) and it will be sent to all the representatives in

Congress and Senate for your state. (It evens gets sent to President

Bush and Vice President Cheney).

Please take a moment to do this-- You will HELP PREVENT BIRTH

DEFECTS.

This law will apply increased restrictions to the use of Isotretinoin

(Accutane and it's generics) in order to prevent additional thousands

of abortions, birth defects, suicides, psychiatric disorders, and

multiple other adverse effects. The March of Dimes has put their

support in writing. So far there is bi-partisan support, with 10 co-

sponsors of the resolution.

(Note: Accutane will still be available to help those with severe

acne, but the treatment will be safer for patients and unborn

children).
