Guest guest
, Hi, yes I homeschool Tryny, have for the last 2 years now and it's 100% better. He was originally " home bound " schooled, where a teacher came to the home 2 hours a day, but the school was having a problem getting her the supplies needed to use for the special way Tryny needed to learn. I had NOTHING but problems with the school system, so I told them that Tryny would no longer need any of their services and pulled him out. As to how it's going, wonderfully.............. I can get him when he is most receptive, I can schedule it around when he has appointments, is feeling bad or is just in a mood. And he is learning so much more as he knows that Momma means business so he listens. I use the computer a lot for Tryny and make games out of other things I teach him so that it's fun learning. With Tryny being totally deaf, sign language is the biggest subject of course, so I buy everything out there that has sign language on it. And for the story books that don't, I make strips up of signs that tell the story on each page, tape it to the pages so that he can read the page in " his " language. You'll do great, and you'll enjoy it as much as your daughter does. If you need anything or help, don't hesitate to ask, Debra
Guest guest
HI. I AM HOMESCHOOLING MY 3YR. OLD CHARGER. HE IS AT A KINDERGARTEN LEVEL. I THINK IT IS VERY REWARDING TO KNOW I AM TEACHING HIM EVERYTHING HE KNOWS AND I AM INSTILLING HIM WITH OUR FAMILIES VALUES AND MORALS. ALSO HE IS NOT LABELED. THE CETER THAT TESTED HIS ABILITIES CAME UP WITH HIM BEING AT A 7YR. 6MO. COGNITIVE LEVEL, WHICH INCLUDES HIS VOCABULARY, SPEECH, MATH, AND READING CAPABILITIES. HE IS AT A 1YR. 9MO. LEVEL ON GROSS MOTOR SKILLS AND 1YR 11MO. ON FINE MOTOR SKILLS. I AM CURRENTLY USING THE LEARN AT HOME CURRICULUM FROM MCGRAW-HILL, AND LEARNING FUNDAMENTALS BY COLIN ROSE AND GORDON DRYDEN. ALSO FOR ACTIVITIES FOR SENSORY PROBLEMS I USE THE OUT OF SYNC CHILD AND THE OUT OF SYNC CHILD HAS FUN. RACHEL
Guest guest
hi , we are contemplating home educating for both our boys, our oldest is just five and we haven't sent him to school yet, so i guess we are home schooling LOL. (here in NZ you don't need to send children to school until they are six years old, and if home schooling you apply for an exemption just before their 6th birthday). it is a scary decision, you may feel worried that you will not know everything ... good news is that you don't need to, you just have to be creative and resourceful to find things out, and find other people to ask. It is a good idea that you are already involved with a homeschooling group - they will be able to give you support for the hard times, and someone to share your joys with for all the fun times too! i really hope to be able to continue on my home schooling dream with Ben and Josh ... i think that it will be good for us all, and means we can learn around medical times and never have to worry about missing anything by not being able to go because of operations/appointments. when you stop to think about it parents are already " home schooling " - we are children's first teachers anyway, so it is just simply an extension through life. good luck, Jo ds Ben 5yrs, ds Josh (nearly two!) my little CHaRGE'r ----- Original Message ----- > Is there anyone out there who has or is home schooling their CHARGE child. > If so, please let me know how it is going. I think Myer- is the company that sells it and it has a web site, I just can't find it. It's a good tool and I get a lot of use out of it for Tryny.
