Figures used by WEN based on a number of studies carried out in California in the 1980's (where, despite extremely high water charges it is still cheaper to use cloth than buy diapers), amongst others. My experience of using cloth nappies etc suggests that these figures are actually conservative. Serco (the company that handles the rubbish and landfill local to me) suggest that they receive 7% volume in dis- poseables (note the hyphen).
