> Just a practical question...How can I save some money on this

diet?

Tina,

I certainly know what you mean. I only have one child on the diet

and just the cost of the meat alone is scary. As I'm finding things

my child likes, I am trying to buy larger portions (family packs)

and cook more at once to put in the freezer, thereby saving at least

a little in the price per pound for the meat. Same goes for the

larger bags of veggies and sometimes fruit that you can buy frozen

at a place like " Sams " or a wholesale food store. I have been very

blessed in that my in-laws purchased a small deep freeze for me so

that I am able to do this.

I would be interested in any ideas others have as well!

Well,I agree with you all on this diet being expensive as we have 6

of us on it.Check with your produce dept.at your local grocery store

about which days they sell reduced produce.I get large bags of ripe

bananas, packs of apples, etc.that has a few spots on them, but there

not bad. They are perfect for applesauce and I freeze the bananas for

smoothies. Also, my local grocery store reduces meat for quick sale

on certain days, check with them about that.I also buy my pears by

the box from a local market and I make pearsauce and freeze it.We

raise our own chickens,so we have eggs.I get my nuts and nut butters

from a health food coop and that saves me a little bit.Even doing

all this,my bill is still about $140.00 a week average just for

food.I am taking advantage of everyone who offers to let me pick

fruits and veggies this year from their gardens,so that my freezer

will be full.Your local farmers market should have lots to choose

from and you could make good use of it,and save some money.I know my

biggest money goes to meat, but pears are expensive for us,so I will

make loads of pearsauce this fall from my inlaws pear tree that they

just let go to waste.Check around, you can find a way to make it.
