Anyone seen a rash like this?

Our son has had this strange rash since before Christmas. It comes and goes, and comes back again. I can't tell if it looks like hives or something else. New spots come on bright red and about the size of a pencil eraser and they fade after a couple days, sometimes ending in a little flakiness. They are primarily around his mouth and chin and up the sides of his cheeks. He's more recently been getting them on his shoulders elbows and wrists. This morning he has one under his eye. This has been going on for more than three weeks, and I can't figure it out. Of course, he was completely cleared up last week when we went to see DAN, but has since broken out again. The attached photo was taken Dec. 30, but he is worse now. Thanks for any input!!
