When you have completed one row (one guess), you press the red button, and get hints about how close you are in black and white marbles to the right (1 black marble= 1 correct colour at the correct location, 1 white marble=1 correct colour at the wrong location, no black/white marble= neither colour nor location are correct). And then you use those hints to better your guess, until you get it right.
