Guest guest
how does your son do in school? Is he in a preschool yet? I am asking because I am just worried that if he is that non-compliant with a therapist , he might act the same way in school. What are TSS services? Is that a form of ABA or DTT? If so, then you just dont have good therapist (sorry to say). They should be able to change his behavior, attendance, attention to task, etc if they know what they are doing. Are you state funded? If so, just talk into getting a different agency. For us , it took about 2 weeks of screaming and not wanting to do anything whatsoever but after that we have only seen progress from his program (it has been now almost 2 years). I do DTT, OT, Speech, biomedical and homeopathy and all of that seems to be helping his overall treatment. He is now 4 and in a typical preschool with an aide. I recovered mine without any behavioral therapy. Two had speech services, but only because one is now 18, so there was not biomed when he was little and the other got speech services, which weren't working, before I adopted her. I would focus more on biomed, and do behavioral therapies only if convenient or if biomed wasn't working enough.Love and prayers,Heidi NOk, I know this board is mainly about biomedical treatments, etc which I am currently doing many with my 3 yr old son diagnosed with PDD nos with positive results. However, I do know that behavioral therapy is also important for recovery as well and I have a big dilemma. Here's the problem, we live in a rather economicaly depressed area of PA and there are no good agencies or programs that actually help the any children who go to them. My son has had TSS services for a year and a half now (he is almost 4) and he is still not tolerating therapy, making any progress with the TSS and screams and is defiant the entire time. Now to give some background, he is high functioning, and though he never stops babbling he is non-verbal and has virtually no functional communication. His stimmming and other behavior issues have been relatively under control through our own interventions and biomedical treatments. The OT from early intervention before he turned 3 was the only therapist to ever get through to him and she did aggressive hand over hand for a year, suffering through the kicks and screams, and head banging. He does repond to family when we try to teach him things, but never to the TSS. He is so upset when she is here that he wll not cooperate or even listen to me or her the whole time.We have had several agencies, several BSC's and 4 TSS so far and no one has had any answers for me as to what we should be doing. Should we be as aggressive as his former OT? They just look at me and ask me what I want to do. I just want to scream that if I knew what to do for him I wouldn't have you people in my home all week making us all miserable with no results!! Every suggestion has to do with me basicall figuring out what will work on my own. Which I am trying to do.But, if I have to do this on my own, what the hell do I need these people for? This is how I am feeling, my mother in law and husband also feel the same way.I really want to just stop his therapy. He has started outpatient speech that we have to travel for to get a decent therapist. I am afraid I would be cutting off resources or something. I don't know. I just need someone who has gone through something like this or has any knowledge or advice because no "professional" in my area has any answers for me at all.Should I just stop the TSS?Thank you so much for any advice!! Guest guest
IS the behavior mainly due to therapy or possibly he is experiencing some pain in his body and is frustrated not to be able to communicate. There is center in PA: http://www.keystonensc.com/ One of their staff is trained in D.A.N. protocol. I think they also take insurance. As you address his medical needs then he may exhibit less behaviors. Since he is high functioning and nonverbal, I can see why he would be frustrated. He can't make his needs known. See if you get the speech therapist to help you develop a functional communication whether through pecs, sign, a communication device. Do you have a case manager in PA for your son? I don't know how the state works. If you do, ask case manager to help you with resources and to give you some direction.
