Guest guest
Yes MTHFR is the enzyme needed to reduce folic acid to the usable form called 5-MTHF (the " R " stands for reductase)There are three genes but I have only seen 2 tested with normal labs, they are 677 and 1298. The other one I have seen tested thru Dr. Yasko's test. Tests for MTHFR can be done thru regular labcorp and quest. You should be able to convince a regular doctor to test these. Reasons to give are " family history of heart disease " or " history of miscarriage. " Is MTHFR an enzyme deficiency? I know nothing about any of this. I'll have to ask my DAN. Guest guest
, it depends. I just read a book called "Could it be B12? An Epidemic of Misdiagnosis" (It's a great read, and it's fast.) -- and it depends. Rob (my brother) had high/normal B12 levels, but clearly (as I pointed out to his Dr.) he showed signs of deficiency. She wasn't really on board, but trusted my instincts and let Rob do the nasal spray. (as she kept pointing to the tests and I kept pointing out deficiency symptoms)I read this book..and she suggested not just the blood serum or smear, but a test called the HCY, and the MMA (Urine).. (all three should be done!) .it could be that the B12 uptake isn't there...and there are ways to improve that. It could be a few other things (that I can't remember at the moment.) A lot of Dr's don't know about these tests.A year later (even though Rob tested high/normal) and was taking B12 nasal spray, his B12 is crazy low (this year) and we have added shots to the mix. (We got his uptake of B12 to improve greatly, which is why his serum tests now measure low, just because it's in the blood doesn't necessarily mean that the vehicle for uptake and usability is there - I hope I am making sense...) He also improved greatly over the year...(I mean GREATLY.) So, it could be (and it's just a thought as I ramble on and on..) that the vehicle to get B12 isn't there or isn't sufficiently there. So these tests described in the book would probably help your Dr. figure out why this is happening. BTW - Vaccines deplete your B12 stores, wheat and milk inhibit the uptake of B12 (or greatly reduce it's availability -- which is why the gf/cf diet works well.) laura :)To: mb12 valtrex Sent: Fri, December 17, 2010 4:49:48 PMSubject: High B12 Hi! Guest guest
Holy cow! I did not know that vaccs deplete b12 stores. I wonder if taking b12 before and after vaccs might help? I'm crazy paranoid about my grandson and we load him up with therapeutic doses of vite c before and after shots. A lot of Dr's don't know about these tests.A year later (even though Rob tested high/normal) and was taking B12 nasal spray, his B12 is crazy low (this year) and we have added shots to the mix. BTW - Vaccines deplete your B12 stores, wheat and milk inhibit the uptake of B12 (or greatly reduce it's availability -- which is why the gf/cf diet works well.) laura To: mb12 valtrex Sent: Fri, December 17, 2010 4:49:48 PMSubject: High B12 Hi! She was on no supps at the time of the test, so the DAN assumes it was a lab error. Maybe not? She said it's very difficult to have high B12 levels without supps. Guest guest
Never too young. And they can TEST for it. But they have to do all three tests...not just the serum test. And your kids MUST demand it for their child (the tests, all of them) so that he gets a proper diagnosis. To: mb12 valtrex Sent: Fri, December 17, 2010 8:29:26 PMSubject: Re: High B12 Holy cow!
