Guest guest
i realize marcy freed did the stim therapy as we did it with her w/erika when she was getting it FDA approved. it did not work for us at the time, i think b/c erika was still trached. we are currently using a neuromuscular stimulator that we are renting. from what i understand the difference is: the vital stm is on for 59 secs and off for 1 sec. the down side to this is their can be muscle fatigue, however, vital stims approach is that is what you want. the neuromusclar stimulator that we have is on for 8 secs off ofr 32 allowing the muscle to rest in between. they both are trying to achieve the same outcome, however, the delivery is diffrent. i tend to think the rest in between is important, this is also a physical therapists thoughts. we wen twith a neuromusclar stimulator b/c we could rent it monthly and you cant witht he vital stim, however, i do beleive this approach may be better. what are other thoughts here????? we are renting it for $125/mo, my insurance denied it b/c ther eis " no proven effectiveness of it " . my next question is what about a TENS unit??? we have one that my insurance approved us to purchase 5 years ago to help with strengtheing erikas upper back and trunk. wouldnt this be the same? thanx for any input cathie, erikas mom
