I find that eating soup helps relieve the hunger pains. It's more filling

than juice or yogurt.

Dear Beth,

Before my stomach started giving me such fits I was able to eat almost

anything I wanted about a month out too....especially with your pouch

slightly larger I would expect you to have some real hunger

pangs....when I couldn't eat anything else, dill pickles went down

easily and were filling and gave me that " chewing " satisfaction....so

did raw broccoli and cauliflower and carrots (chew thoroughly)...you

might try vegetable beef or thick cream of chicken soup...something

with texture may help....if you can tolerate the spiciness (or get

mild)...try a couple of Tostitos and salsa or an omelet with finely

chopped deli meats and cheese...I found this really filling and easy

to digest! Also microwave popcorn helped fill me up without causing

any problems....don't know if that's something Dr. R recommends or not

though.....

Keep us posted.

Beth,

I too found that 3 weeks was the marker for my

increased hunger! Maybe the internal swelling is gone

by then? Dr. Rutledge allowed me to add cottage

cheese to my diet around 2 weeks, I was SO sick of

sweet things! However I couldn't eat as much cottage

cheese as I could yogurt, seemed more filling. I too

felt that creamy soups were more satisfying, my

favorite was Lipton's cup of soup, Cream of Chicken.

Losing 20 pounds in 2 weeks is great, I think I

lost 12 in 10 days, at one month I had lost 30. So

you well on your way!

Pam - I just love to read your messages... you put things so beautifully! I

think I'll print this out and take it with me so every time I get nervous I

can read it and calm right down!

I too have been able to only think about one thing 24/7. I know I won't

sleep much tomorrow night... getting ready for my flight out Friday

morning... then Sunday night before the surgery I'm sure I'll be awake ALL

night!

I called Debbie about my medications (Wellbutrin & Prempro) - that's all I

take, she checked with the Dr. R and said they were fine, but I will check

with him Sat morning before I take them just to be sure it's ok to take

right before surgery.

LOL - loved the " bug juice cocktail in a needle " - I was cracking up!

You are so funny.

Thank you so much for the comforting words and the laughs!

Pat,

If there ever was a time when the old adage " Easier said than done "

applies it is right now during the last few days before this life

changing event...having said that let me tell you from personal

experience that you can't get rid of the butterflies but you can get

them to fly in formation.....

I got about 15 minutes sleep the night before surgery, and obsessed on

it 24/7 the week before.

Because of the anesthesia they will give you it would be dangerous to

take most medicines the night before surgery....they can stay in your

system and change the reactions of general anesthesia. By the way, if

you take any medicines regularly be sure Dr. R knows that.

The anesthesiologist will call you the day before surgery (it may be

that night) and get info they will need to determine best anesthesia

etc... The stuff they do finally give you is worth the wait! Like

Katy said, once they get you to the back and give you their special

" bug juice cocktail in a needle) you'll be saying " Calgon, take me

away! " and before you can finish the sentence you are only semi-aware

and VERY RELAXED!

Then, in what seems like no time at all you'll hear Dr. R saying,

" Everything went fine....... " At which point all you will be able to

think about is going back to sleep....so all that beauty sleep you

missed the night before gets made up!!!!!

Good luck. Make sure someone keeps the group posted on your progress.
