Guest guest
Hi Jim, I agree that the effort needs to be tied to a positive legislative effort and connections must be there to guard against any negative impact. On the other hand it is hard to imagine a legislator that would not be swayed by therapists in every state making the same statement at the same time. There is always some safety with an effort that everyone is taking part in. I think it is worth exploring, maybe not this spring but some time soon. Tom Howell, P.T., M.P.T. I know in the past physicians in another state made a big deal about closing their offices in protest of high malpractice premiums. It backfired on them as it angered the legislature in that state and no reforms were forthcoming. It is hard to take what on the surface looks like a great idea and fully know all the results and reactions to the action you want to undertake. One also has to be clear on who the action is aimed at as well. In addition, in this instance, high co-pays affect all practice settings and studies have shown that people do not buy their meds or take them as prescribed because of hi co-pays, so this issue involves many more than just provate practicing PTs. I guess this is a long winded way of saying each state has to look at thier political agenda and see if something like this will hurt or advance their chances of success.
