So, my friend, Edna and I rode in my trustysteed, Marco Polo, down to the BerkeleyMarina, arriving just in time to feed the squirrels. We brought with us, some very well-aged walnutsand pecans, lost in my freezer, some brown rice, and a long forgotten can of peanuts from Edna'shouse. We parked, and were fortunate to fine a spot notcovered with people; we were right near the inlandside of the Bay, where we could see the squirrels, the birds--endless varieties, the sea gulls, the terns, the Brown Pelicans and the cormorants, who lookas if they were wearing judges' robes. We began scattering food for the squirrels on eitherside of the car, with both doors open--it was hot yesterday here. The squirrels are not bothered by

the open car doors, but the doors do keep the gulls away--and gulls will eat anything, not that they arenot food-deprived now, too--just not as interesting. So, while the ground squirrels fed, the SouthernCalifornia Fox Squirrels came up on the hood of the car to be hand-fed the nuts, which they prefer. It got pretty wild. We did this for about three hours, and then drove over to the dog park on the Bay tosee what dogs (and people) were out, and then back to see more squirrels at another location inthe Berkeley Marina.I got tired and so we did not stay out late enough to look for the racoons, but we may tonight!Or, as was said during Pres. 's era:"Bulletins will be issued."Love,n
