Guest guest
I think most people will tell you to try the SCD diet, but I just want to respond with my own experience. I was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease, and have been to the hospital several times with relapses. When my 21-month old son was born, I went off all dairy (I had been drinking lactaid milk). I have been completely healthy since he was born, with no relapses. I have no trouble digesting wheat, rice, potatoes, etc., but I have to be extremely careful about dairy. In order to go off all dairy, you have to read the labels on all foods to make sure there is no casein, lactose, or whey. Even vitamins contain lactose. If your daughter has a milk allergy, maybe it is worth first trying the dairy removal before starting the SCD diet, which is much more difficult. I have now just started SCD for my son's sake because I am still nursing him and he needs to be on SCD. It's doing wonders for him, but it's not any better for my stomach personally. In fact, it's worse because I have trouble with nuts, bananas, and other foods on the diet. It's entirely possible that your daughter does need SCD, but I am just trying to save you a tremendous about of trouble on the chance that she doesn't. I would try complete dairy removal for a set time, and then switch to SCD if she doesn't improve. > My 2 year old has been dx with IBD. Her symptoms include loose, > mucousy stools, usually 2 x day. Guest guest
Hi, Just wanted to say that my 22mos.old/asd is an extremely picky eater. He has been GFCF for 6 mos. and only ate about 6 different foods (no fruits and no veggies). We implemented SCD a week ago. His repotoire of foods is already surpassed that of previous months. He did eat only the chicken pancakes day 1 and 2, and day 3 didn't eat at all..but day 4-7 he is eating better than I have ever seen him! Applesauce, pearsauce, banana pancakes, ground chicken, butternut squash, pureed carrots.. If you asked me a week ago, I would have said no way, he won't eat it! Not to mention, he had not eaten anything mushy off a spoon due to what I thought were huge sensory issues, for the past 8 mos. That of course, has completely ended with this diet also.. He is like a bird waiting to be fed, and is even attempting self feeding for the first ever with a utensil! Made a believer out of me! and Ty - In pecanbread , " sue_tomica " <sue.tomica@c...> wrote: > My 2 year old has been dx with IBD. Her symptoms include loose, > mucousy stools, usually 2 x day. Guest guest
Welcome to the list Sue, Die-off refers to the dying of microbes in the body (bacteria and yeast). Die-off symptoms can include color change in stools (green, yellow etc.), fatique, lethargy, increased behaviours. The good news is that this is temporary. Many have found that giving epsom salt baths or activated charcoal help ease these symtoms until they are over the worst of it. Your daughter may have had loose bloody stool is she was still getting other forms of food (starches etc.) for the microbes when you cut out lactose. Here is a great section on our site for picky eaters http://pecanbread.com/difficulties.html#picky and depending what types of food she prefers (soft, crunchy etc.) there are lots of great recipes to be found at http://pecanbread.com/recipes.html If you are thinking of starting the diet please check out http://pecanbread.com/foodprep.html#transition http://pecanbread.com/foodprep.html#intro http://pecanbread.com/foodprep.html#menu Sheila UC, 20 years -- in remission after 39 mos SCD mom of SCD 24 mos > My 2 year old has been dx with IBD.
