You absolutely need a strong antifungal on board with valtrex for an autistic child. For some unknown reason the autistic population seems to stir up yeast when on valtrex. Diflucan seems o work the best. Also, give some good probiotics. Many start the anti fungal prior to starting valtrex.

I am going to call my doc to get a dose increase but if my son has been on/off OLE for several years would it be okay to add it on board too? Also, I thought Valtrex was suppose to be taken with anti fungals to keep yeast in control. Am I mistaken?> > > Hi!

posted this morning that I finally took the plunge and started Valtrex with my 8 year old. After reading several posts, files and anything I could find on anti viral therapy I think that maybe my son is starting on too low of a dose. His Dan has him starting on 250 mg twice a day. Does that seem too low for an 8 year old who weighs close to 60lbs? Maybe he is starting low because I was a little nervous about the whole idea. Maybe I should add in OLE too. Any thoughts would be great! > > > > Thanks,> > Dayna> > > >>

It's not unknown. Antivirals switch the immune system from TH1 to TH2 (or vice versa, I can never remember off the top of my head). One controls yeast, the other controls everything else. Our kids already have difficulty controlling yeast, throw the switch into the mix and it's pretty much impossible. But I think the point that was missed is that it shouldn't be started at the same time. Start one, then the other. You always need to know what is doing what.

Do me a *huge* favor everyone - please put a little note with it when you send a link! Only because I usually think it's spam and you'll end up getting a note from me saying that you've been hijacked and moderated until you fix it. The only reason this one didn't get is because it *looked* like it wasn't but I don't always read the link to know it's not a hijacked e-mail address. Thanks for the link, . There are also some rat studies in the archives on how antivirals cause yeast.

Hi cheryl,

My son is 6 years old and seeeing Dr G and he is on valtrex, and nizoral and i dont see any die off symptoms is that means both of them not working i dont see any big positives or negatives. I read so many books kids have huge die off issues and even Stan kurtz mention when his kid was on that he got a huge rash , i dont why my son dont see anything like that? i remember few months back we saw red patch which looks like cols sore on one side of his lips and spoke to Dr g he didnt say anything about that and that's gone after few days.

Thanks

Anitha
