Hi Lynn,

why would not you just replace those fillings with composites? It's

not so difficult if it's only one filling in each child's mouth. May

be, it would be good to give them couple of rounds of chelation with

DMSA after you remove the fillings. Sorry, I don't know anything

about vax.

Were you able to do this at the same dentist office that put them

in? Does anyone know what the silver- *supposedly* no mercury-

fillings contain?

Is this very painful for the child?

As far as I know all silver-colored fillings contain mercury

Hi Lynn,

I was not able to do it even in another office, because they told me

that my amalgams were not broken, so that was why I changed the

dentist. The dentist I found is not " mercury-free " , but she removed

my fillings with rubber dam and vacuum. She also does some cosmetic

staff - some people want to replace amalgams because they do not look

nice. She explained to me that it was good that I changed dental

insurance, the same insurance covers replacing amalgams only after 5

years. But I do not think that 2 amalgams cost a lot of money. I like

this dentist, and I took my 6 yo daughter (NT) to her, and she made

some fillings (composite, sure) and even couple of crowns only with

local anaestesia, my daughter was perfectly OK and tolerated

everything well (and got a lot of stickers, rings etc. as an award),

so noe she asks me to take her to the dentist again! (I am sure,

though, that my son would not even open his mouth!).

I would recommend to look for a mercury-free dentist, or anybody who

takes proper precautions whien removing amalgams.

I don't know answers to your questions, but want to comment on the

ear wax. Several parents of kids with Inflammatory Bowel Disease

have commented that their kids (including mine) have excessive ear

wax. I've also read that it is a sign of essential fatty acid

deficiency. My son's ear wax has diminished when the gut disease

activity calmed down.

Are you saying that with one dental filling your 6 year old seemed to

suffer subtle cognitive losses? I know that with each amalgam I got,

I, myself lost something in brain functioning. I recently had my

amalgams removed, and am struggling with trying to get my brain back!

I had definite memory losses and language problems.

lynn,

I did use a dentist that was not experienced and my kids new

fillings fell out. My new dentist is Hardy who wrote " Mercury-

Free " . He re-did my kids fillings and he also did all my fillings.

Another dentist told me she could not get my fillings out. Dr Hardy

did a great job, no pain and no problems. I am having him redo a

root canal some time this year.

  • 2 weeks later...

It is not uncommon under certain circumstances to mix silver powder with

crown and bridge cement to make a temporary filling, which by the way,

contains NO mercury and frequently last for a very long time. They are

placed based upon the tooth, amount of decay, age of patient, and how

long the filling needs to last...and financial situation of the patient.

They appear " grey " or similar to a typical Mercury Silver filling...and

contain NO mercury.
