School. My father was a US government contractor

working with the Shah’s helicopter program. I was evacuated out with many

plane loads of American women and children in December of 78. It has always

been Irahnian to us. It drove me bonkers to hear the newscasters pronounce it

incorrectly. Ask any Iranian and he will tell you that it is not “Iraynian”

Connie, I actually do know that, but the poor

pronunciation and enunciation of U.S. broad

casters drives me nuts!

My mother was part Iranian, and most languages

OTHER than English use what we call Latin vowel

pronunciation. My moaning was about our broad

casters, not about actual correctness. They only

mispronouced it for 40 years--kind of like saying

"Eye-Rack" for Iraq, etc.

We even came to a point where about 100 of the Tule Elk

decided (big decision) to actually cross the road, right in

front of my car, Marco Polo. Tule Elk take these decisions

seriously, so the whole process from the first Elk pointing

nose toward the road which we were on, to the passing of

the last Mother Elk and Baby, took nearly 1.5 hours.

No, the grass did not appear greener on the other side. We

did not know what prompted the exodus. The other 100 or

so Tule Elk just went on munching, ignoring their wayfaring

friends.

Then we came back to the Berkeley Marina and saw no

end of Brown Pelicans diving, gulls riding the thermal

air currents, the sun setting, and one lone racoon appearing.

Below is a very strange and mysterious statue at the beginning

of the long Berkeley Pier:

No one knows who designed and constructed this statue;

about 20 years ago, it was found at about 5:00 a.m. neatly

installed opposite the Berkeley Pier. It was ultimately decided

that it was not cost-effective to remove it, so it is still there,

and is still a mystery--so far as I can determine.

you about the poor pronunciation of broadcasters. We have a new weatherperson

here on one of our local channels and she mispronounces a major city in North Texas daily. The city is Denton—she says Dehton. She leaves out the “n”.

Drives me crazy. You would think that someone at the TV station would tell her.

Just one of my

many many pet peeves.

casters drives me nuts!

My mother was part Iranian, and most languages

OTHER than English use what we call Latin vowel

pronunciation. My moaning was about our broad

casters, not about actual correctness. They only

mispronouced it for 40 years--kind of like saying

" Eye-Rack " for Iraq, etc.

.. My father was a US

government contractor working with the Shah’s helicopter program. I was

evacuated out with many plane loads of American women and children in December

of 78. It has always been Irahnian to us. It drove me bonkers to hear the

it is not “Iraynian” J
