How does everyone address cell phone use in the PT area, most specifically

OP clinic? We have noticed an escalation of use, and disrespect by phones

ringing during treatment and even folks answering them during an eval.

Thanks!

Out therapists are required to keep them out of the clinic/ treatment area. We

require vibration mode. For patients , we ask that they turn them off during

treatment.

We have posted signs and we will ask them not to talk on the phone.

This is a medical office. Tell them to get off the phone. This is not

We put up several signs that say: " So you can receive the highest

quality of care, please no cell phone usage. " They are in the waiting

room and at other prominent places in the dept. This has dec usage and

everyone has been respectful about turning them off, even during

evaluations.

Great question . Our clinic has also seen an increase in cell

phone use by patients. We have a no cell phone use policy. Signs are

posted in the waiting room and the patient treatment areas. This helps

to some degree, but there will always be the patients who ignore the

signs. We politely ask the patient not to use their cell phone as this

interferes with their care and disrupts the other patient's in the

clinic

If a patient is on ice or estim and is not too loud we tend to ignore

this. More people are texting so it is less disruptive.

Hope this helps.

Good luck.

This is generally not a problem for me personally since I work mainly with

Geriatrics, However I have been at Dr. offices where a sign is posted at the

desk and several other areas that cell phones are to be turned off, even that

they interfere with medical equipment. (which I am not sure about) It is

unfortunate it has come to this, but if they are more interested in answering a

friends call instead of your question, what are their prospects for recovery?

It's getting out of control.

On another note, are the patients getting the idea it might be OK if staff is

answering their cell phones, even if it is a physician? Maybe the staff can

leave their phone w/ the front desk then they are being " interrupted " by the

assistant, old fashion style!

What about making it a game? maybe " every cell phone ring means that person

needs to bring in 2 cookies next visit " Include staff with this.

Just some thought.

Hi,

We have a sign hanging up in the waiting room asking people to turn their

cell phones off. Those that are awaiting an important call and let us know

are asked to put it on vibrate. Been doing it for a year without incident

or complaint even in a community with a lot of very overworked and stressed

out folks. Everyone understands and as long as you do it with respect, it

seems to not be a problem.
