Guest guest
, Here is an explanation that I found on the " cajun " site...But I can assure you that I have never known anyone to use the term in any other way than an endearing one. Just one for fun use to show love and pride of the area and the wonderful cajun heritage. They are some of the most wonderful people with a way of cooking that beats all. My father-in-law still speaks " Patois " ...the cajun French. " Coonass is a controversial term in the Cajun lexicon: to some Cajuns it is regarded as the supreme ethnic slur, meaning " ignorant, backwards Cajun " ; to others the term is a badge of pride, much like the word Chicano is for Mexican Americans. " Just know that your family loved you! And where in La. are you from? Nonie > Hey, Nonie. Since I was born in LA, parts of my family have called me a coon-ass all my life. The thing is, no one ever explained it to me. Help??!!! > Thanks! > (WV) > -------------------------------------------------------------- > Wow Nonie, > You can't say something like that here in Colorado!! >
