GABA works pretty well for me for anxiety.

I just take it once in a while.

Hi Sondra,

Well, I am not Rose ...... but I will comment on your questions.

I hope this is okay.

Yes, many kids that do not talk have mercury poisoning.

I do not know if there is a difference between " selective

mutism " and " autism " with no talking.

yes, maybe. Some kids who have regressed and do not talk at

all, when they chelate to get rid of metals, then they start

to talk. But, not all kids. It is hard to predict, but SOME

kids do begin to talk :)

I hope for the best for you and your children, maybe chelating will

help you.

best wishes,

My reply seems a few days late and not a " natural supplement " but I

give my daughter 1.75mg of Paxil to treat her OCD and anxiety. The

med doesn't completely rid OCD/anxiety, but it takes her from being

virtually non-functioning in life to being able to cope with life.

She's 3yrs 5mos. We did this only after the gfcf diet, 15 months of

speech & OT using ABA approach, and various dietary supplements. BTW,

she began sleeping at night again. She went from waking several times

a week to a couple times per month.

Hi ,

I am sorry your daughter is going through such a rough time

lately. I know how difficult a waxing period can be on everyone.

You mentioned that your daughter's therapist specializes in CBT.

Has your daughter been taught ERP (exposure and response prevention)

along with the CBT? This combo, with the addition of meds when

needed, is the only proven treatment for OCD. Relaxation methods

can be helpful addtions to CBT/ERP, but they are not effective

against the actual Os and Cs.

One of the first symptoms my son exhibited prior to his OCD

diagnosis was " a worried feeling in his stomach " . It took some time

for us to figure out, but he was having obsessive " bad " thoughts

that were very troubling to him. He did not have any overt

compulsions associated with the thoughts, other than trying to keep

himself busy enough to keep from thinking at all!

What form did OCD take originally with your daughter? Could

she possibly be having troubling thoughts that she does not want to

share with you? I know that for my son the morning was a difficult

time for him. He would wake up and I think the thoughts would be

right there to greet him. OCD can be relentless!

Hopefully as your daughters schedule settles down she will see

a lessening of symptoms. I know that stress (even the good kind)

and lack of sleep, routine, etc. can cause a spike in symptoms.

Whatever the case, hang in there and know that you are not alone.--

> Hi my daughter (almost 12) was diagnosed w/ OCD a few years ago.

She was on Luvox for about a year, and it stopped woorking so she

tappered off of it. At about the same time she started seeing a

social worker at our Children's Hospital who specializes in CBT.

She is doing well w/ the OCD, so we decided to take a break for the

summer. She has struggled w/ some anxiety in the past, usually

associated w/ her OCD, but now she is having a lot of anxiety. The

first thing she says when she wakes up is " I'm nervous! " She

describes it as having " a scared feeling. " She says her stomach

hurts, and she feels like she is going to vomit. Nothing sounds

good to eat (except fast food). She admittedly is overtired after

participating (for 2 weeks) in a lcoal theater production of Music

Man (lots of late nights), and now attending a 1 week theater camp.

I 'm hoping that next week when things have slowed down that she

will feel a little better.

> In the meantime, I want to help her, but now sure what to do. She

went to 6 sessions of biofeedback last year, so she knows the way to

relax. She says it doesn't help. I've contacted a psychologist who

is working with our family in reducing conflict, and she said she

like to do some EMDR. I hate to think of putting her on medication,

but she is actually asking for it, saying that she is not excited

about ANYTHING anymore:(

>

> The thing that excites her most about life is horseback riding,

and now she's having extreme worries about falling off. She's

afraid of the pain, and that she won't be able to handle it. I

*know* horseback riding can be dangerous, and she has gotten thrown

a few times. She doesn't want to take a break, but this past week,

she was so anxious that she decided to stay home (this was the FIRST

time since she started taking lessons 6 years ago), but the anxiety

didn't really subside, then she was made at herself for missing it.

Hi,

My daughter, 15, is a lot like your kids but she's only begun regularly

participating in Tae Kwon Do and it's really hard for her. She's been losing

weight. Too anxious to eat and I worry she's developing an eating disorder.

Maybe we need to consider something for anxiety, at least for awhile. She's very

slowly tapering up on Prozac. Diagnosis: General Anxiety disorder (?), Social

Anxiety Disorder, Dysthymia (who wouldn't be chronically depressed after years

of undiagnosed OCD), and a few symptoms associated with OCD that also shadow PDD

(Pervasive Developmental Disorder.) She's doing cognitive & exposure therapy,

but there's so much that bothers her that it seems overwhelming. She is

progressing though. She's afraid of riding bikes and driving, but suggested that

she start bike riding to help her get ready for driving. She does not want to be

dependent or crippled for life. My husband and I are both quiet and enjoy being

home and she's an only child who's home schooled,

and I think this helped to hide her problems but now as she desires to reach

out and grow she's struggling.

Thanks for sharing. After reading your notes I feel like I may be tolerating

too much anxiety in her when it can be helped. I have a lot of anxiety, too, so

its hard to know what to not put up with. I'm going to contact her psychiatrist

and see what she thinks.

Blessings, Elaine
