Guest guest
Good morning, all, I would also like to reconfirm the number of dosing per day. Currently, my son is taking 1/2 tablet of Valtrex (1 tablet = 500mg) twice a day. I have not seen any WOWs with Valtrex. But I may not be dosing it enough or as often. Thank you, Jerry > > i need suggestions on how to increase the valtrex.my son is so sensitive, the doc only started him on 2 tsp a day, but i had to cut it to one as he reacted negatively very quickly. at one tsp he was great! now i began to increase by 1.5 ml. looking for suggestions on how the increase should go/time frames for a kid like him. he had a bad morning so of course i am wondering if its the valtrex since its day 2 of the increase. hes only been on it 2 weeks. seens awesome gains as well already!! >

Guest guest
I would start increasing by first adding in the second dose. Only giving it to him once a day is very bad. He's not on a high enough dose to only give it to him once a day. 2x a day isn't great but 1x a day is not good at all because the half life of Valtrex isn't very long. The way antivirals work is by inhibiting replication. If you go throughout the day with that stop-start pattern of replication, you're giving viruses a chance to mutate.Only people taking very large doses of Valtrex can get away with taking it once a day. Guest guest
Good afternoon, Cheryl, Are you recommending that I give 250mg 3 times a day? Or should I take the 500mg tablet and divide it into three? Do you happen to know the half-life of Valtrex? What was your dose for your child? My son weighs 40 lbs. Thank you as always!!!! Guest guest
The half life of valtrex is 2.5 hrs so that is why you are supposed to dose it 3 times per day. A child under 50 pounds gets 250mgs 3 times per day and a child over 50 pounds can get 500mgs 3 times per day. We had a lot of trouble with valtrex and bad behavior (lots of rashes too) even past the first 3 months. Once we added imunovir we have a much, much happier compliant child. The Imunovir seems to make him feel great! Guest guest
Imunovir is an immunemodulator and an antiviral. I read some posts on a chronic fatigue list and some of the people there said that they instantly felt better when starting the imunovir........more energy, stopped feeling sick, etc. My son is verbal but not enough to tell me how he really feels. He's not on a high enough dose to only give it to him once a day. 2x a day isn't great but 1x a day is not good at all because the half life of Valtrex isn't very long. The way antivirals work is by inhibiting replication. If you go throughout the day with that stop-start pattern of replication, you're giving viruses a chance to mutate. >> >> >> Only people taking very large doses of Valtrex can get away with taking it once a day. >> >> Cheryl >> ~http://www. gryffins- tail.blogspot. com >> ~@midian42~ >> >> On Apr 30, 2010, at 10:12 AM, First Namemeghan Tarantino wrote: >> >>> >>> >>> 250 >>> >>> From: Cheryl L. <cheryl.lowrancegmail> >>> To: mb12 valtrex@ yahoogroups. com >>> Sent: Fri, April 30, 2010 11:39:24 AM >>> Subject: Re: waltrex dosing q >>> >>> >>> It's easier to help you if you can give us the actual dosage. Guest guest
Other options, if he's not reacting well to Valtrex are to switch to Famvir or Zovirax (but this must be dosed 5x a day).
