Guest guest
Why is there such a big range of mg for the dosages? I would think that 4mg vs 14mg would be a big difference. I'm about to begin my Allie Kat when her DMSA gets here and was wondering at which end of the range I should begin. Thanks, Debi > > Andy's recommended dosage for a 28 pound child, would be: > > 3.5 to 14 mg per dose, ALA > > 3.5 to 14 mg per dose, DMSA > > best wishes, > Moria
Guest guest
Thank you so much, can you explain the ratio to me as well? Is is one doubled dose of one or other? I guess I'm not following. I have Andy's book, I'm still reading it, I sometimes have to read paragraphs 3 times to absorb it all!!!! It's got tons of info!!! Guest guest
Hello Karyn, > Thank you so much, can you explain the ratio to me as well? As I already said: Andy's recommended dosage for a 28 pound child, would be: 3.5 to 14 mg per dose, ALA 3.5 to 14 mg per dose, DMSA Now, as to the ratio, this is really not something with a clear and exact " answer " . You have a lot of leeway. Andy has said anything from 2:1 to 1:2 is fine. So, using the dose range that I already stated, examples of this ratio would include: a. 5 mg ALA and 5 mg DMSA [1:1] b. 10 mg ALA and 10 mg DMSA [1:1] c. 5 mg ALA and 10 mg DMSA [1:2] d. 10 mg ALA and 5 mg DMSA [2:1] Personally, I think if you just work with the dose range you'll be fine. The ratio leaves lots of leeway. If it seems confusing, you can just pick 1:1, which is simple. > Is is one doubled dose of one or other? I guess I'm not following. I'm about to begin my > Allie Kat when her DMSA gets here and was wondering at which end of > the range I should begin. It is kind of a wide range. I know I've read posts from adults who feel they have to use VERY low dosage. I think it give leeway for varying sensitivity. The goal is to use enough to chelate but not so much that it is horribly uncomfortable. As for how much to use, I have 2 ideas of how to pick: 1. pick an amount that is a round number. It is easier to divide pills up. (Unless you are buying stuff that is compounded for you, in which case you can get whatever you want, I think.) In the example of 4 mg to 14 mg, it is easier to make 5 mg or 10 mg doses than it is to make 4 mg or 8 or 13 mg doses. So, personally, I would pick 5 or 10. 2. pick based on how cautious or ambitious you are. If you are feeling really cautious, and want to start as slow as possible, pick lower. If you are feeling more ambitious and anxious to get going, start higher. You can always cut it down. I probably would not pick the highest or the lowest point to start with. don't know if that helps LOL. Moria

Debi, My opinion is that you should begin with the smallest dose possible and increase it if it's tolerated. The reason for the difference in doses is because each person responds differently to the same dose. For example there are kids who are fine with 50mg DMSA. My kid had a lot of problems when we started chelation with 8-10mg DMSA. He is taking now 25mg and he's ok. We increased the dose in time.
