I hadn't heard of this before and tried the web for some info. From one site: " Usually, no treatment is needed. Artificial tears can be used to relieve the sensation of a foreign body in the eye and to protect against dryness.... There is nothing that has been clearly shown to prevent these disorders, or to prevent a pinguecula from progressing to a pterygium. However, the presence of pingueculae and pterygia have been linked to exposure to UV radiation. For that reason, UV exposure should be reduced. The American Optometric Association (AOA) suggests that sunglasses should block 99-100% of UV-A and UV-B rays. Patients should speak to their eye care professionals about protective coatings on sunglasses or regular spectacles. Protecting the eyes from sunlight, dust, and other environmental irritants is a good idea. Guest guest
Thank you Sheila for your information. My doctor thinks it's unlikely the pinguecula in my eye is caused by sunlight damage, as it started after winter/spring. Yesterday I checked my 5 year old daughter who's also on the diet, and found the same thing in her eye under her upper eyelid. And my mother reminded me that my daughter and I had an eye infection just a few months ago, so maybe that's the cause... So I'll go back to my doctor next week, to get more info. I'm a little less worried, think it's more likely the infection caused this. Regards, Esther SCD 6+ months, celiac and hypoglycemic
