Guest guest
" Is anyone sensitive to cholorine and other chemicals in public pools or have children who are? ... I am curious if anyone else has had this kind of problem " Helen, Yes, both of my boys react quite negatively to chlorine. Our summer plans will include a few such excursions. To counteract the effects, I use extra MSM, extra Taurine, a shower after the swimming, then Mag. Sulfate Cream rubbed all over them. After swimming more Taurine and MSM. It works for us, but adding all those things is expensive and I don't like to tax their system, but I do want to allow them to participate in a few swimming excursions each summer. I have no idea if this would work on a consistent basis, but it does allow a few times of fun in the sun! Guest guest
Hi Helen, I think more than a few of us do have this problem. Pfeiffer Treatment Center mentions it. I never figured out the connection between pool and health/behavior because so many other things were causing problems as well. I am really sure of the connection this year especially since SCD has improved things so much. Mainly I see dark eye circles, and behavior that indicates the body is under stress. That can translate into what you called " a handful " . As our main form of socializing and exercise has always been to go to the pool during summer break, I am scrambling to rethink our summer plans. I seek to find equally or more appealing alternatives, and possibly new friends who enjoy other activities besides swimming. I'd love to share ideas with others. Computer games seem to be a default, suboptimal diversion, but unavoidable it seems. One lucky thing is that there are tennis courts near our pool, so we are starting to play tennis some days earlier in the day as a family and I hope that is enough activity to deter them from needing to come back later to swim. My oldest is lucky enough to have been able to get on a tennis team this year, so he can make friends that way, but this is taking time as he just started playing last fall. It really is amazing because last year at this time seasonal allergies made outdoor sports impossible. There also is a basketball hoop, ping pong and four square at the facility. My youngest has motor skill delays which have really improved recently (could it be SCD's benefits?). He wouldn't touch a tennis racket last fall, but now he is asking to play, and he is hitting the ball more and more. I am amazed. I have told my kids that if they are going to swim they need to take epsom salt baths afterwards. They don't like them all the time, so that may deter their interests. I also wonder if they could just play with squirt guns and not get into the pool much. Squirt guns seem to be the big thing this year, after the diving board. Any other summer ideas anyone?
